I should know... I've done this before! But I'm only 37+6 today. DS came at 39 ish. No show yet - last time the first sign was waters going spectacularly.

So... braxton hicks all morning, one or two of which have got a bit painful. But also period-type pain in my lower and middle back. It comes and it goes but it's very irregular and isn't getting any stronger. Every time it goes quiet and I think it's all in my head, another one comes along.

It would be very convenient to have the baby today or tomorrow. Am I just talking myself into it? Answers on a postcard!?

Anyone? Starting to feel a bit worried now as my bump has been solid for ages and I haven't felt any movement for maybe 2 hours. Going to do relaxation CD as that usually gets baby going.

Sorry I don't have any answers for you but couldn't read and run! Are the braxton hicks/contractions irregular too or is that just the back pain? I would phone maternity triage if I were you, that's what they're there for, particularly if you haven't felt baby move yet. Really keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Have a really cold drink, or crunch some ice, and lie on your left side quietly for half an hour. That should get him/her going, if not, call the delivery suite and you can pop in and get assessed. If you tell them its for reduced movement they will see you or in day assessment straight away, and they will monitor baby and your (maybe) contractions. It's better to know be reassured xx

Just wanted to thank you for your responses. I did my pregnancy relaxation a couple of times this PM and not only did it stop the BH and backache, but also got the baby moving much more normally. Phew!

I'm slightly disappointed that what could have been symptoms have gone away. On the other hand, that's a bit longer to prepare and a chance to get some more sleep!

Delighted to hear this, thanks for updating. Bet it was such a relief to feel it move! I totally empathise with the disappointment about it not being labour though, I can't wait to get it over and meet baby, but at least this way it's getting to cook for that wee bit longer. Good luck for when it does happen!
