is it clexayn.......for DVT? thread on this recently if so.....

Overrun · 09/11/2006 21:17

I did, not too much of a problem really, you just jab it in. I did end up bruising, but thats probably unavoidable. You might also feel the cold more, if your blood is thin. good luck

trace2 · 09/11/2006 21:18

i think they called it some thing with a t, i had a blood clot years ago

Have found advice and treatment is changed each time I switch doctor or hospital.
Currently on 2nd pg and have been injecting since Sept '05 with Clexane (was on warfarin prior to that but this doc decided prob best not to conceive on it even though was having monthly blood tests). Fell pg in April. Dose was doubled at 28 weeks to 2 x 40ml a day and will continue until 10 days after db arrives. Then will be free of all blood thinners.
Had dvt on 1st pg (at 24 weeks) and then had 2 x 105 ml of Fragmin which was changed to Orgoran 5-6 weeks in. Then given warfarin for 6 weeks from the day I gave birth (was originally told the 2 would run together for a while but that never happened).
After another dvt was told would need to take warfarin indefinitely. (Obviously not the case now.)

Have always jabbed in legs (found stomach especially irritated by waistbands across the jab sites and got horrendous bruising - and now pg just seems wrong). Find current jabs really sting both as needle goes in and then the drug, get bruising and the jab site'll throb for 5-10 minutes afterwards. Dh has learnt not to touch me 'til it's calmed down again. My approach is to do the jabs as slowly as I can. Also get painful fingers and toes if allow my hands and feet to get too cold. Current doc thinks all this is inevitable so I assume alot of people experience the same. That said orgoran didn't cause me a moment's notice, so I it depends how your body reacts to a particular drug.
In the overall scheme of things it's only a short period of time that you have to put up with it, though, and you get a lovely baby out of it. Good luck with your pg!

sorry trace....can't cut & paste on lap top!! it's about half way down
pregnancy ', called DVT...i can link tomorrow morning !

yomellamoHelly · 09/11/2006 21:55

And only had 3 blood tests whilst on this drug since September '05, each time "to check your levels". First a week after I started. Second once I fell pg and third a week after they upped the dose.

trace2 · 09/11/2006 21:57

yomellamoHelly thanks for that info, but after baby is born on 10 days on blood thining? i have found the diffrent doc do diffrent too, i never had my dvt in pg was ages ago, which became a plumery emblisen{bit broke off and went in my lungs( sorry about spelling) can not understand why i have to have warfrin for 6 months after

yomellamoHelly · 09/11/2006 22:00

Keep adding - sorry
Warfarin a different matter, to hospital for blood tests every day for first week, then every 2 or 3 days for a couple of weeks, then once a week for around a month, then every couple of weeks thereafter. Hv was meant to save me the hassle when ds was newborn and I could barely walk and do the tests from home but she continuously forgot to bring the right vials. Start of a bad relationship!

yomellamoHelly · 09/11/2006 22:05

Have also heard about "6 months of warfarin" - was told to expect it for 1st pg, but never happened and was told the same by the current doc with this pg, but was changed to 10 days of just the Clexane at my last appointment with the her.

trace2 · 09/11/2006 22:13

oh i hope my doc chages his mind, when i had ds 4 years ago, had to go to hospital every day for first two weeks after that my hv, then a nures was sent out and it became i thunp prick in the end for tests which was so much better

I had 12 weeks of Clexane with both my pregnancies, but in the first trimester. No problems with it, other than bruising..

julezboo · 10/11/2006 09:22

I am on fragmin now - 25 weeks pregnant have had it since week 4! (fragmin is same as clexine Im told) Im not having anymore than usual blood tests because mine is a preventive dose not a treatment (would assume the same for you as you say you dont have DVT)

Im on it because of Factor V Leiden, Ive never had a blood clot either. Bruises at first can be a pain and quite big LOL but they do get smaller as you leanrn how to do it easier. Just like part of my bedtime routine now

link as promised!

SmokeMeaKipper · 10/11/2006 10:26

Julezboo - fist time I've found someone else on MN with Factor V Leiden!

I'm still ttc so not into the whole thing yet, but I wondered if I could ask if you're heterozygous or homozygous.
I only discovered I was het after my mum - also het - had a DVT, and have never had a DVT myself.
I've read a few things that suggest LMW heparin (clexane, fragmin, orgaran etc) may not be neccesary if I wear the ghastly stockings and keep active, so I've been hoping I'll get away without it - am I being unrealistic?

julezboo · 10/11/2006 10:48

SMK- Im heterozygous!

TBH Im on fragmin because of recurrent mc's. I have had 5, one in 2000 quite late on, then had DS @31 weeks due to IUGR and pre-eclampsia, then mar 05, dec 05, jan 06 and mar 06, I had early mc's before 6 weeks.

The fragmin was a last resort and its seemed to have done its Job this time! First try too. They have told me alot of women have FVL and never know it, My mum has it too, she had 3 children, no mc's and we were all born very big and late lol! My nan was the same (she had it too) 3 kids, on of whom was over 11lb!!! Imagine!

Maybe you willget away with just aspirin tablets
