Water Births

I know this is early but I'm very curious! I'm delightedly 6wks pregnant with #1 and I can't stop thinking about whether to have a water birth! I just wondered if other mums out there have had them and would share their experiences please!

I LOVED mine. Had wanted one for my first birth but ended up not getting it for various reasons (a mistake on the mw's part about how far along I was).

I opted for a home water birth with my second and it was so different. So much less painful, much more gentle and natural feeling. My only regret is I didn't get in the pool sooner (I only got in about 40 mins before she was born).

I hope you manage to get yours. If I was having another I would opt for a water birth every time. X

I had a water birth with DD3 and it was AMAZING. As births go it was out of this world and so relaxed. She came out swimming and never cried. I thought there was something wrong but she was just so calm and was looking around... Amazing experience x

Wow thank you :) I'm so excited about it... How do you rate the pain compared with being dumped on a bed in a vomit-coloured room?

It's hard to judge as dd1 was back to back so labour was longer and more painful but I found the actual birth much less painful. I didn't get the stinging feeling when her head was coming out this time.

Loved mine with DC2. I'm sure it helped painwise and it was quite something to reach down and scoop up a "swimming" baby! Congrats

I loved my water birth it was amazing. If I ever have another baby I would definitely be opting for another.

My first child was a water birth. It still hurt a lot, as he was back to back, but it probably would have hurt more on dry land. I did love the experience. I found the water very soothing and calming and he came out so peacefully I would have done it again for DS 2 but he was out before they could turn the taps on!

Dcs 4 & 5 were water births. Brilliant experience but with dc 6 she opened her bowels.
They asked me to get out of the pool & I did. It was irrelevant. The only thing that mattered was the baby's wellbeing.

Explore your options but keep an open mind.

I'm just like biscuits needed - DD was back to back so i was pushing for a long long time but the water really helped. When she finally appeared I cradled her in my arms and lapped the warm water over her, she just looked at me in wonder, it was lovely.I would definitely just a water birth again.

DS was unexpectedly back to back and arriving very fast. I arrived at hospital and writhed along the wall to the room, then on the bed while they checked me quickly and filled the pool.

When I got in the pool the relief was immediate and immense. It was lovely and the water was so supportive in terms of being mobile while giving birth to him.

DD had been induced via drip so no water birth with her unfortunately. Her birth was fast and furious too and I can say that even though DS was back to back his birth was less painful - though maybe DD had cleared the way ;)

Congratulations on your pregnancy, do research water birth, personally I'd recommend it in the appropriate circumstances.

Love reading these responses. Would love to have a water birth this time round, I was induced with DC1 as I was over 2 weeks overdue and it's not really an experience I want to relive. Hopefully this time round labour will start naturally and I'll get the chance to experience it (last baby), even if I get in the pool and realize it's not for me at least I'll know. Due date is tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

I laboured in the pool for several hours but things got complicated and I gave birth on dry land in the end. I enjoyed the experience especially being able to readily move into any position I wanted. Hoping to actually give birth in pool this time.
