I've had it bad since 5 weeks, now 9+3. Please tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel! No need to post if you had it for the whole pregnancy!

I still have it at 22+4, but its much better than it was earlier on, I'm only really sick a couple of times a week, and only ever in the morning. At first it was really putting me off the whole idea, but I've got used to it now! its definitely not as much of an inconvenience as it was over the first 14 weeks or so!

I was throwing up about three times a day till 15 weeks. After that I still felt sick nearly all the time and couldn't stand the smell/taste of so many foods, but threw up far less. At 24 weeks I went to stay for a few nights with my aunt and uncle and felt a lot better. She suggested trying to change the smell of our flat - that it might be smell association still making me feel sick. When we got home we bought one of those plug in smell things and stopped buying or cooking any food that I didn't like (so the smells wouldn't be in the flat). DH had to put up with very bland food for the rest of the pregnancy but it made such a huge difference - it was like a miracle. I never threw up again (until just after giving birth and felt quite normal most of the time.

I'm also 9+3 and have been sick as a dog since 5 weeks. I've lost a stone because I just can't face food. I think we were unlucky to start so early - it's very depressing and wears you down. BUT... in my last pregnancy, it just lifted like a fog at 13 and half weeks. One day I just woke up and wanted a dead spicy burrito. And anything else on offer. When it went, it went quickly and completely. So hang in there... we'll be fine by Christmas dinner, and with any luck before!

twinkle5 · 10/11/2006 13:05

cocobear, that's what I'm hoping for- the ability to eat and enjoy christmas dinner

Puppydavies that's so weird you should say that. Last weekend I was feeling wretched with nausea, then I got a stinking cold on tuesday and it went away. I though yes! That's it no more sickness...cold clears up and Friday morning woke up feeling like death again! It really was like my body said "ok, I'll let you just have one at a time, I'm not that cruel"!

bobblehead · 10/11/2006 17:34

With dd it went at 11 weeks, this time around 16 weeks

Elibean · 10/11/2006 18:14

14 weeks, more or less, with both pregnancies. Though it came back much less severely from time to time for a couple of weeks after that - but nothing in comparison!

Gwu · 10/11/2006 18:32

It went at around 12 weeks. Since the 12 week mark, have thrown up only once and feel nauseous if I'm very tired.

gymmie · 10/11/2006 19:03

If it's bad it's called hyperemesis gravidarum. I had it - necessitated hospitalisation for me as I was losing so much fluid that my blood pressure was dropping dangerously low. Had palpatations and kidneys were showing signs of packing up.

They put me on Stemetil for both my pregnancies. Termed as being "safe" to use as it's been used for a long time and commonly prescribed. There's also another drug beginning with "C" but it didn't do anything for me. They never guarantee any drug for safetly. Both drugs should help with the throwing up but generally you still feel constantly nauseous. I was so bed bound I started getting bed sores. Couldn't even read, as my eyes moving would make me throw! Horrendous.

First pregnancy I had "HG" until 33 weeks, though it became more manageable around 22 weeks, and with second pregnancy it was more intense (drugs didn't really help), but felt more human-ish around 17 weeks.

Good luck. It's just the worst. It totally changed my mind on euthinasia - no joke.

about 30seconds after the end of third stage

I was very poorly with it when pregnant. I remember having my 20week scan with a sick bowl on my chest. Trying to vomit while lying flat!

lucykate · 10/11/2006 20:32

with dd, 22wks, with ds, 12 wks.

Coriander73 · 10/11/2006 20:39

With both DD & DS...it stopped at 18 weeks. The majority though do stop once they reach that magic 12 weeks stage.. Good luck

allybaba · 10/11/2006 22:32

Mine lasted for 16 weeks, it then magically disappeared. I found eating extra strong mints and ginger biscuits helped!

lupins71 · 11/11/2006 07:56

At almost 36 weeks, mine, which never went away for more than 5 or 6 days, is back with a vengeance. I'm sick every morning again now - although it's nothing like the all day sickness I had up to about 24 weeks. I haven't found anything helps. However, even though there is obviously light at the end of the tunnel, in that it won't last our whole lives, I can tell you that you get used to being sick all the time. I simply can't remember a time when I didn't wake up in the morning feeling like I wanted to throw up, now. It just seems normal, and no longer depresses me the way it did in the first few months. And I've been assured it NEVER lasts beyond birth! I know they told me it almost never lasted beyond 16 weeks, but this time, I believe them...

ELF1981 · 11/11/2006 20:40

lol - I was going to post and then saw your last sentence!

I remember throwing up on the street on my way to work one morning at five months pregnant, and hoping I looked pregnant enough to not look like an alcoholic or something!

I unfortunately had it until DD was born, and on the days I wasn't sick, I had chronic indegestion, so sometimes I weclomed the sickness!!

ELF1981 · 11/11/2006 20:43

And as a reassurance - I had bad morning sickness, eventually got to the point where I ate almost nothing in the day because everything made me sick (ended up a stone lighter once DD was born than before pg and she weighed nearly 9lbs so she hadnt been starving!) BUT the day after my section at lunch I got to eat fish and chips and it was the best food I have ever tasted in my life, despite being hospital food!
And I haven't been sick since

LadyOfTheFlowersIs1Baby1Bump · 11/11/2006 20:47

ds1 was sick thru most of it.
ds2 stopped at 3months and was only very mild anyway.

macneil · 11/11/2006 20:47

Ah, ELF, fish and chips post birth sounds like heaven! For some reason the morning sickness hasn't resulted in weight loss for me - maybe because I always hurry to replace the food.

BettySpaghetti · 11/11/2006 20:56

With both my 2 it stopped at about 4 months.

The after effects lasted longer though- I once threw up after eating tomato soup when pregnant with DS and I've only just been able to face eating it again 2 years later!!

ELF1981 · 11/11/2006 21:17

I remember it being the best food I'd ever tasted, followed by a small pot of ice-cream. I was still a little shaky what with it being my first few hours sitting up after the section, but I shovelled that food in!!
