Swollen Feet by 8.30am

Hi all,

I know edema is quite common in preganncy, especially in the third trimester. I am currently 34wks, and have a standard admin office job which involves sitting at a desk all day. I do have a foot rest under my desk. I also wear flats around the office, a size bigger than usual but this all doesn't help I know, flats are not the most suitable!

During the week at work, the last few weeks I have noticed my feet are swollen by 11.30/12pm and don't really change much throughout the day and evening.
When get home I see its mainly around my ankles and where socks have been that are swollen, but the top of my foot seems fine, I sprawl out on sofa and put feet up, but then the feet start puffing out and ankles go down! Cant win! Overnight I try to sleep on my left as advised online!!!, and in all honesty, they tend to go down a lot, and by morning sometimes are slightly swollen or back to normal. Whats worse is I had podgy toes beforehand so my fat feet aren't so obvious at times. At weekends I have slightly swollen by end of day but nowhere near as much, even though do a lot more on my feet and walking around!

Anyway, last night I noticed they were swollen as normal, and by this morning when I woke up they hadn't properly gone down, and just looked now, they are already ballooning and its only 8.45am. I don't feel ill in myself. I don't have any other symptoms.

Should I be concerned? Or is psyching myself up making the situation worse?

I only have this week and half of next week left at work, so am guessing that the shoes, the office temps, gravity from sitting at a desk all day are all the culprits for it, and should ease once I'm out of here and will obviously go once baby is here... but this is the only symptom I'm really suffering with so it's worrying me!

I know I shouldn't be concerned but thought it best to check.

Thanks,

Lou

How's your blood pressure been? Do you have a mw appoint this week? If not, I'd phone and speak to them/her.

Is it warmer where you are? pissing it down wi rain here

Make sure you are rotating ankles every so often whilst sitting, get the fluid moving.

Foggymist · 18/05/2015 09:03

Yeah get your bp and urine checked for protein. When the swelling in my ankles was back 30 minutes after I got up it was my only noticeable symptom of pre eclampsia, if I'd gotten it checked sooner I could've avoided a lot of trouble.

thanks both, it is warm in the office which I know is not a help.
i had a check up last week with MW and everything was checked and fine, have another one a week tomorrow. if it calms down when home later and over weekend it should be fine, but i finish work end of next week so reckon itll calm down by then!

think it doesnt help when your automatically worrying!

also dont think it helps was at moms all weekend and their house is extra warm at best of times, plus had memory foam and thick duvet... so didnt really get any 'feet cooling' time between fri and sunday!

If it carries on this bad this week and doesnt completely go down I will call up.

Sudden swelling is associated with pre eclampsia. can you get to your mw this week at all for bp and urine check? its better to be safe than sorry

lulaloops · 18/05/2015 10:32

Yeh I know thats a big sign of PreE, but as this does happen daily due to my work, it was just the fact it came on so early in the morning that worried me.
If heat is a big factor that hasnt helped that's for sure and have no other issues.

if it doent go down or change then I will get checked. But was checked Tues and Weds last week and going again a week tomorrow. But if carries on this bad this week I will look into getting into Drs.

I'm going to look at getting some cheap pumps/plimsolls from primarni for rest of week and next see if that helps too! As flats are not the best.

you could always bob along to a pharmacy to get a bp check, just for a bit of peace of mind? the fact its started so early in the day is a bit worrying is all. ,best of luck to you

Number3cometome · 18/05/2015 11:15

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

If you urine and BP is fine, I wouldn't worry.

Some mornings mine are still swollen from the night before, and can leave hand prints!

lentilpot · 18/05/2015 11:15

Yeah, my midwives said to call if my feet swelling started early in the day. I'd give them a ring just to check or as a pp said, get your blood pressure checked at a chemist. It is probably nothing but if you were worried enough to start this thread then I think you should get it checked out.

Penguinandminipenguin · 18/05/2015 12:30

^^ Def agree with lentilpot

lulaloops · 18/05/2015 12:48

Thanks all.

they dont seem to have got any worse since this morning, and making extra effort to drink plenty.

it could just be one of those days, but if carries on the same pattern tomorrow will definitely call up and get checked.

thanks again
