How much weight did you gain in your first trimester?

I'm 13 weeks and I feel and look bigger than I've ever have. My weight has always been around 52-53 kilos (about 8.5 stones) and I am (was) size 8-10 always. All of a sudden nothing fits. My boobs, legs, belly are fat (not the bump), and at my 10 weeks booking in appointment I was weighted and was almost 55 kilos already... Now I feel like I'm 56, I've never weighted this before (need to buy scales too). It scares me, is that how much I'm supposed to be gaining?? P.S. I must admit I started eating a lot, feel hungry all the time.. What do I do? Sad

Bunny85. Thank you for putting this post up.
I'm mortified at my weight gain too.
It's my first and I'm 18 weeks but gained 1kg between weeks 10-13 and I dread to think what I am now.
I was also 51kg at booking 10 weeks and a size 8 but all I want to eat is carbs.
The first trimester all I could face was jacket potatoes and bread.
And now I can't seem to stop the hunger now the nausea has gone.
It's doesn't help that I'm old and my tummy muscles have given up the fight but I'm reassured by what others have written here. I'm already working on my exercise regime plan for when baby's born as I can't live with this amount of weight post baby!

Xx

Hi lardycow, don't worry, I'm 29 but feel like I have no tummy muscles at all despite my initially 'slim' figure. I'm hoping at least it would mean a quicker bump for me! Grin I too was reassured by some ladies here who lost almost all of the gained weight right away. Fingers crossed for us! Another blunder I made was that I've ditched my bras completely as they got too tight, haven't worn one for 2 months, and yesterday when my mum found out she said I'm crazy, apparently my boobs will sag now! Shock First thing in the morning today I was in mothercare stocking up some maternity bras...

I know what you mean, although not as far along, 9 weeks I think. I am a bottomless pit for food and water! So thirsty all the time! I have generally always eaten well and drank plenty and been somewhat body conscious. Much the same as others, carbs keep everything ticking along with minimal nausea. At times I feel like a beached whale, others ok. As others have said it's all going to be worth it and I try to laugh and enjoy at the not-so-delightful sides of pregnancy.

bunny - if you can bear it, try doing a bit more exercise. Even a 20-30 minute low impact workout on youtube, or 20 minutes dancing with some light weights would make a difference if you do it regularly. At very least it will help you get rid of some bloat and retained water.

I'm only 6+2, and haven't really had any strong nausea yet, but I have been getting much hungrier, much quicker than usual. I find that drinking more water or fizzy water really helps.

I've put on just over one kilogram since before I was pregnant, but since I was on the border between normal and underweight to begin with I'm not that bothered.

I know what people mean about craving junk food. Maybe it's different for people with strong nausea, but I've noticed that even if I really WANT a mars bar, if I eat a pear I don't enjoy it, but I'm still not hungry afterwards.

The doctors are really strict about weight gain here, which is actually a really good incentive not to sell your soul to Ben and Jerrys.

goodness do you have any recommendations for exercise routines on YouTube?

I usually do the 30 day shred but I'm afraid that's too much for me now. Thanks.

Emjones, I couldn't agree more! I'm trying not to take it seriously, even though it's tough feeling like a whale when you've always been petite.

Goodness, thank you, that's a really good advise, since my only excercise atm is walking. Yes, could you recommend us any? I must admit I do feel like dancing, since I'm just back from my first ever scan and we got to see the baby for the very first time! The bean was asleep. Can't stop staring at the photos!..EnvyEnvyEnvy

GoEasy and Julia - I've been doing mainly videos that I was doing beforehand, but just missing out the ab moves, and taking it much easier than I would have done beforehand.

Like for example, before doing the thirty day shred I would have pushed myself to keep going when I was getting tired, done all the exercises I could on the harder level, and used lighter weights on moves I found tough.

Now it's the easier version of most things (unless it's a piss easy move), using lighter weights overall, and using no weights at all on the more difficult moves. Basically getting a bit out of breath is okay, but lying in a puddle of your own sweat is bad. If you're tired, you can just sit out the rest of that move, or rest during the next move or whatever.

Other things I like are any of the Fitness Blender Low Impact cardio workouts, the Ministry of Sound Pump it Up the Ultimate dance workout (either skipping out the pump it up section, or just taking it much slower), and JessicaSmithtv who has some prenatal workouts.

Denise Austin does a few pregnancy workouts as well, but I find myself just wanting to punch her in the face.

Basically just search "pregnancy workout" or "pre natal workouts" on youtube and pick whatever takes your fancy.

Thanks goodness I'll take a look, I need to get moving again now that I'm coming out of the first trimester fog Grin
