Too organised??

Ok so I'm 14+3 and already I want to go out and shop for EVERYTHING we need for baby. This is baby number 4 for us and I am just desperate to get everything organised. All I keep doing is looking up baby websites and comparing prices. Already got our pram and crib and I've been picking up baby toiletries whenever I see any special offers in the supermarket. Is there such a thing as being too organised?

So people suggest leaving it until after the 20 week abnormality scan.

Generally in life I think you can't be too organised but you can end up with too much stuff!

craftynanny · 16/05/2015 13:21

You sound just like me Steph and I've really struggled to stop organising too much! We wanted to wait until our 20 week scan- this is our first, and I was worried about 'jumping the gun' a bit..but you've had 4 so you know what you're doing!!

FernGullysWoollyPully · 16/05/2015 13:27

Oh I don't think so! I'm 20 weeks with 4 older dc as well so I need to be organised! I've already bought everything for this one, and the nursery is set up ready to g!

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 13:29

I'm not sure I'll ever know what I'm doing haha. We are due November and I'm really conscious that I want to have my Christmas shopping done before he/she makes an appearance. (Again, too organised? Haha) i don't think I'll over buy as I'm quite realistic as to what a newborn actually needs but yeah, I'd probably end up picking up a lot of rubbish towards the end... I'm far too impatient lol. Congrats to you on your first wee bambino :) are you going to try and find out what you're having? x

Oh that's reassuring Fern... I think the more you have you just want to get all the baby stuff done and dusted so it's not any added pressure on you lol x

I'm an organised person in general, but I also don't like buying excessive stuff that's a waste to the environment as well as money

So I didn't actually finalise any orders or get stuff until after 30 weeks. But I did write lists. What items we wanted and needed, find places that sold them, at best cost, then worked out if we really needed or should wait until after birth if we actually did.
This way the lists started off bigger, then by the time we ordered we had crossed off and swapped many things.

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 13:35

Yeah... Love a good list lol x

I think so too. We're due in October but we've got 2 dc birthdays and 2 holidays booked before then so it's about money too. I've been really bargain hunting. Plus with all the summer wear already in the shops it's harder to buy things for a baby born when it's getting colder. To avoid buying too much, I made a list of what we needed, didn't include things we could do without and I've stuck to it. I don't allow myself to buy 'extras' tempting as it is!

craftynanny · 16/05/2015 13:42

We would really like to know yer, but little pickle didn't make it easy at our last scan! Having another one on Monday so fingers crossed we'll know more then!Confused x

Artandco · 16/05/2015 13:47

Oh and by making lists but not actually buying until much later it's easier to pass on what to get to others who want to buy a gift!

So when my parents kept asking what they could buy we just sent them the link to cotbed we wanted, car seat was pil, and we wanted to use reusable nappies so for friends we just sent link to particular type we were buying when they asked and said another nappy (£10 each), would be far more useful that extra clothing.

Then we knew what we had been bought Or given by others and could buy the rest

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 14:07

I don't think I'll go overboard. I've enough experience to know what's useful and what we really don't need but I just want all the essentials bought in ASAP so we can concentrate on other things. My oldest starting high school after summer too so that will be new uniforms etc plus birthdays and hopefully a caravan break before then. My mind doing overtime with it all. Will defo get my lists sorted xx

It depends on the individual I guess; some people are superstitious or worry about how they'd feel with all the baby stuff being at home if the worst happened.

I started slowly getting bits after the 12 week scan then upped the game after the 20 week scan. I'm now 26 weeks and we have most of what I think we need - though I'm sure they'll be bits we haven't thought of.

My reason for starting early was to spread the cost out as much as possible and to catch offers as they happened.

The downside is that every spare bit of space is full of baby stuff! But I guess we need to get used to that anyway!

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 14:20

Defo want to spread the cost Gillian x

I'm not at all superstitious and our pram has been sat, fully constructed, in the dining room since about 14 weeks. Mother-in-law is however very superstitious and is having kittens about it!!

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 14:32

I got my pram on Thursday as it was end of line and was a great deal. Everyone can't believe that I've got it so soon though. That's the biggest purchase out the way though so don't have to worry about it. What pram did you go for Gillian? x

We just went for a Graco Mirage travel system - cheap and cheerful as we're on a tight budget. But it had good reviews and also fits in my small car :)

What about you?

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 15:35

Mamas and papas sola 2. The new edition of the pram came out and they were selling off the old one in a package. We got it nice and cheap too. As long as a pram fits your daily needs then it doesn't matter how cheap/expensive it is. My friend has a graco she loves it x

I like to be organised too steph. Expecting DC6 in the summer and want everything purchased soon so that I am then ready to buy the school shoes and uniforms before moving onto the Christmas shopping Grin

I can't relax when I know things need to be bought - no right / wrong way it's just what I am like. Love looking at my little stockpile of baby stuff!!

Good luck with your little one ........

Steph1502 · 16/05/2015 16:10

I feel the same loveandsmiles.... Go you baby number 6! Congratulations. Thank you and good luck to you too x
