Unstable lie 38+4 advice please?

Third baby following two vaginal straightforward-ish deliveries (7lb3 and 7lb11 weights).

Baby has been breech from around 30 weeks and I was sent for a scan at 36+6 at which point baby was head down and fixed at the brim. Since then baby has been flipping and spinning no end.
Yesterday baby was definitely transverse at around teatime, oblique later on and then head up by bed time. No pain when moving so obviously lots of room.
Lo and behold though baby was back head down at my midwife appointment this afternoon. I did explain what's been happening but was worried she wouldn't believe me.
She did try and get a consultant apt but there are none available until well after my due date so I have to attend maternity daycare on Friday afternoon to be assessed with the possibility of ARM to induce if head down.

My worry is that If baby happens to be head down again I'll just be dismissed and will end up stressing about cord prolapse.
Also worrying about the options if baby is seen by others to be an unstable lie ie section vs induction.
Does anyone have any advice about being taken seriously if midwives and docs don't "see" the baby in the wrong position, or any experience of unstable lies?
Thanks.

My baby was transverse at 36 weeks ish, spotted by a midwife and confirmed by scan. Baby then flipped around a lot but was head down for the next few appointments. I did say I thought the baby was unstable but I'm not sure if they believed me or not. I did worry a bit about cord prolapse but didn't fancy weeks in hospital under observation so didn't push the point with midwives.
I was told that if I went into labour I should get on hands and knees with my bum in the air, call 999 and say I'm in labour with a transverse baby. I found that made me less worried. Did your midwife suggest the same?
My baby ended up settling into a stable transverse lie by 40 weeks so I was admitted from then and had a an elective at 41 weeks.

Ginger,
I've got a recent post re breech / unstable lie.... started a couple of weeks ago. I've had breech on visits, followed by incredibly easy ECV, followed by lots of turning but mostly transverse for about 1.5 weeks, followed by regular turning but mostly 'something' engaged, followed by probably 3 or 4 days now where i haven't noticed transverse at all (tho i am now 40+4).

I was admitted a few times when she was transverse, but did keep leaving when she went cephalic (i live only 5 minutes walk from hospital). I was, however, on edge whenever she was transverse as i was basically told that i had a generous amount of amniotic fluid and if my waters burst as first thing, that most likely the baby would die due to prolapsed cord (cord was usually sitting on my cervix). I spent a lot of time checking, and only felt properly comfortable when baby was head or bum down.

The plan had been to do ECV followed by ARM (while restraining her head down), and hopefully she came out that way. I wasn't interested in CS (in fact am still trying for home birth).

Current plan is that as soon as i go into labour i need to go up to hospital to see what the lie is. If i think she's transverse and my waters go, i'm to 999 it immediately (bum in air). Chances of waters going first are slim, though. usually 10% of births it's the first sign (was first sign with my DS2), but also usually they only go if something is pressing on them - which it's not with transverse lie.

You might find some comments from other people interesting on my other thread...

Hi MayfairMummy - could you please post a link to your other thread? I was trying to find it earlier (I started the ECV thread last night). Thanks!

Thanks for the responses. Baby been oblique and head up again today but am betting come the appointment tomorrow he/she'll be back head down. About 20mins from hosp so cord prolapse is a big worry. Doesn't help that I've just been diagnosed with anxiety and depression so am completely paranoid that the mws will just think I'm being overly neurotic!

Hi ginger, I was very concerned about unstable lie and just wanted a scan. When my midwife didn't sort it quickly I phoned hospital and they got me straight in. Scan actually showed it wasn't unstable (and couldn't be) so reassuring. If they don't take you seriously I'd phone your local hospital day unit. They've been amazing for me and the midwives there so much better!

Sorry, just seen you've had a scan so probably ignore that!

Boatrace, my thread is here... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/2357070-Experiences-please-home-birth-with-breech-potential-ECV-or-did-your-breech-baby-turn-late?pg=3 though i've just read it and realised that most of the answers were breech; i think the comments i was thinking of must have come from one of the many other threads i was researching while hanging about in hospital Hmm

Thanks again for the replies. Scanned again today and baby definitely head down and quite low in the pelvis now. Fingers crossed he/she stays that way this time. Now just to wait for the big day.
