Bored on Maternity

I had to take mine early due to a minor disability and doing quite a physical job but my God I am so bored! I have no money at all due to having to cut down my hours in the last couple of months and stuck in a flat all day is giving me some really low moods :-( especially with a neighbour who smokes like a flipping chimney and gives me migraines daily! Lol rant over x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Can you spend the time doing all those little jobs that you normally never have time to do? Polish all the cutlery whilst listening to music/ audio books, deep clean kitchen and bathroom, wash the windows, batch cooking, sort the baby's room, enjoy a nice bath and a book? It's rotten, you have my sympathy, but if you are feeling well I would get as much done as possible. Good luck with the baby!

I've started maternity leave at 30 weeks. Primrose suggestions are basically what I am doing. Giving our flat a good deep clean, washing and ironing the babies clothes, baking and Watching trashy cop shows that my DP hates.

I enjoy walking so I am exploring the new area we have moved to.

Do you have any friends who are free during the week? They could come round for tea and cake.

There may be a bumps and babies group nearby. I haven't been to my one yet but it's on my list of I become desperately lonely

Watching with interest as I am potentially finishing contract at 26 weeks, and worried about what to do. When are you due?

S2b16 · 12/05/2015 21:01

I've just started mine at 29 weeks, I have no plans other than preparing house for his arrival (which im bored of already) joining the pregnancy classes-ante natal and Aqua natal and lots of sleep.

Is there nowhere in walking distance of your flat? I'd love to mooch around museums and book shops and stuff, or read in a cafe nursing a drink for hours. With an 18mo old time to myself is a distant memory.

Also, if you go on youtube there are tonnes of pregnancy yoga/pilates/relaxation videos. I tend to choose one each day to do depending how busy/tired I am. It keeps me amused for 15/30/60 minutes or so.

I start my mat leave in 3.5 weeks. A while ago I did a beginners Spanish course but have forgotten everything. I have a a BBC 'Beginners Spanish' book and CD. I intend to do a module a day as a refresher. Does something like that appeal?

I'll probably also end up watching lots of crap daytime TV like Jeremy Kyle TBH.

I've been off with sciatica and spd since 25 weeks (am 36 now). I have watched lots of box sets, made cakes and cooked loads, had lots of nice naps, long walks (while I could!) lunched with friends, mum, mil, sil. Did some craft stuff for baby's room, spent too much time pottering on Internet. Tbh I've only been a little bit bored the last couple of weeks as I'm basically not able to go out unless I've got someone with me in case I fall over in a big heap, but I'm hoping that the weather holds and I can sit in the garden with my book for the last couple of weeks. It's the longest break from work I've had since I was 16, (so 16 years!) so it's been lovely to relax and take my time just doing 'stuff' and not worrying about work. I figure I won't have much me time for a while once baby arrives so I'm making the most of it now!

From the opposite perspective of someone that had their baby whilst still at work here's what I would've done:

  • go to the cinema / theatre as its hard to get evenings out once you've got your newborn
  • pack your hospital bag
  • batch cook for the freezer, easy meals to warm up when you've got a baby
  • research baby groups, many you can go along to pregnant e.g.pop into the children's sure start centre and see
  • tidy and clean the things you never get around to
  • set up your flat for baby e.g.changing area etc
  • Sterilise things if you're going to be using breast pump, dummy, bottles
  • see childless friends especially, you'll see a lot less of them on your own afterwards
  • if all else fails read and watch TV!
