Calling on mumsnet wisdom... Birth video/book for children??

So, I'm 28 weeks tomorrow with DC3 and my DC1 (age 7) has said several times that he really wants to watch when the baby is born. (He's a proto-engineer, I think, and is just very keen to see how it all actually works.) I have to have a hospital birth for various reasons, and we've already told him that they don't allow children to come because of germs (semi-true, I think). But he remains curious. We have the usual new baby books for smaller children, but they don't go into a lot of detail. Does anyone have any experience or advice for talking a seven-year-old through childbirth with books and/or videos? Are there any videos online showing a calm birth that you think might be suitable for a seven-year-old? So far he's not especially squeamish, but you never know - I don't want him to be traumatised!

I'm also interested in a book for older children - DS is 5 and a lot of the book I've heard of seem to be aimed at toddlers (the more usual age gap I guess). He's also pretty scientific so I'm expecting some detailed questioning - I'll stick to the usual approach of only answering what he asks, but wondered if Usborne did something? (I might pass on the video though!)

I showed my 6yo DS a youtube video of a very calm - no shouting - home birth where a 7yo was present by user rixaf called birth of Ivy Claire. Watch it first to check check you are happy. It helpd for DS to see it is a lengthy process but that the Mum was ok. I am considering a home birth and asked if he wanted to be present if I did stay home and he said he enjoyed the video but said he doesn't want to see me in any pain and would just like to be nearby so he can come straight home.

Thanks all for the tips and ideas! I've started looking on youtube and there are some very quiet births on there that are not too gory (I remember mine as lots of blood and swearing, so definitely less child-friendly than these ones). I will see what DH thinks tonight about watching one with DS1. Mummyofone, I'm impressed that your DS knows what he wants to do! I would love to have a home birth, but both DCs were premature, so I have to plan on being in hospital.FlightofFancy I started looking for a book too, but couldn't really find anything that appealed for either DS (DS2 is five, too, although so far not very interested in this whole baby business) - I'll have another look and post here if I find anything.

willnot he has always had his opinion on everything and is very switched one! He has seen the shouty version on obem which I sometimes catch up on when he is on minecraft but he has caught bits!

I've got a 4.5 old and I got this book which takes you through the 9 months of pregnancy and tells you how the baby grows. There is a double page spread for each month with facts.

www.amazon.co.uk/Whats-Inside-Your-Tummy-Mummy/dp/1862303606/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431454615&sr=8-1&keywords=inside+your+tummy+mummy

He loves it and must be taking it in as he was telling my mum all about the umbilical cord that goes to the babys tummy button and gives the baby food from mummy. Probably still too simple for a 7 year old but might help the PP with a 5 year old.
