Sweep success rate

I'm booked for a sweep four days before my planned induction (because of GD) - I accept the need for an induction in my case and I am not too upset with the idea but would prefer to go into labour more naturally if I can. Am planning on having a shag/curry/raspberry leaf tea -fest after my sweep but also wondered if anyone had any stats on success rates for sweeps? I found one - not referenced - source saying 1 in 8 but wondered if anyone had any advance on that?

I'll be the first out the 8 to comment and it didn't help me Sad I had a sweep once induced and I was in labour for 21 hours from start of induction. maybe I had bad luck but it hasn't put me off having more. currently pg with dc 2 Grin congratulations and I hope it works for you! my waters broke naturally after a madras the night before Grin

I had two sweeps on day before due date and both LOs were born on due date?? will be looking for one this time around too!

I went into labour 5 hours after my sweep, a week after due date. However it was slow and painful and ds still took 2 days to arrive!

Thanks all. Was expecting a barrage of "it never worked for me"s so this is good news :)

I had one on Thursday and nothing much other than a show...

I was skeptical too, but I had one at 40+5 which the Dr said had failed due to dd (DC2) not being engaged. I spent the afternoon laid up on the sofa with period style backache. Turned up for induction at midday the next day and I was 4cm dilated. Too much of a coincidence in my mind, but at that point with a second baby I pressingly wasn't far of going naturally anyway.

I guess that's the reason behind the lack of concrete stats - women having successful sweeps are often full term and likely to go into labour naturally regardless.

Absolutely Purple, but for a number of reasons the midwives don't want me to go over full term this time do are talking about sweeps at 38 and 39 weeks, confident that that will do the trick.

Who knows Wink
