Not newborn-born-last-week newborn.

Brand-new welcome-to-the-world newborn.

First outfit.

If I was having DC2, all its clothing would be hand me downs from DD, so I might go mad and buy This from The White Company otherwise John Lewis, Next & M&S do the nicest babygrows.

Notso · 09/05/2015 18:38

My babies did not look good in white. They were jaundiced and white made them look even more yellow.
DD's first babygro was red and navy.
DS1's was red and white striped with a tiny snoopy on it. It was supposed to be a yellow velour one but that was newborn and he was gigantic, he stretched and all the poppers came open like the hulk!
DS2's was navy with orange, green and yellow stripes
DS3's was a cream terry hospital one. He was born unassisted at home and transferred in by ambulance. We were so shocked at what had happened we had forgotten to bring anything with us.

Last baby I had was a plain white sleeps hit with a cream angora wool cardigan on top. in retrospect I regret that the cardigan was a bit too 'girly' for a newborn (twiddly crochet bits) - but the texture was lovely.

Ratonnastick awww cutie! Love the monkeys and his wee face.

BookSnark · 09/05/2015 18:44

I also think a hat looks adorable on a small baby.... I moved onto knot hats after cruel bullying re: putting my son in bonnets - but frankly I'm a sucker for them all!

Olive and moss are still around, I've bought some of their babygros for my baby.

BookSnark · 09/05/2015 19:01

winkly it's cute.... But the bear - why the bear . Surely the White Company should, y'know, be all white!

I think I want something more zen...

armani, Hatley are quite similar - I got some lovely retro play suits from them in the past - a really nice slim fit too.

But box fresh baby has to be white!

(Then again- I hadn't thought of the jaundice issue.... But no bears, no bowns, no fruit and definitely no slogans until day 2).

Merino? Luxury omg the price Ivory is a touch more jaundice friendly

BookSnark · 09/05/2015 22:44

Actually retro newborn baby things in the 80s were mainly nightdress things, with a white cardigan.

They were brill too, as they made for easy changing.

I have bought a lovely grey/yellow/white sleepsuit for mine from JL in newborn size. Baby due next weekend.

shitebag · 10/05/2015 09:09

DS' first outfit was a plain white babygrow with a small Winnie the pooh embroidered patch from Tesco

DD's first outfit was a cotton bundler with little giraffes printed on from John Lewis.

Both wore the same little lemon cardigan when leaving the hospital, and pretty much lived in sleepsuits until 6 months.

avocadotoast · 10/05/2015 09:14

I've packed some sleepsuits that my mum got us from Boots for baby's first outfit. They're not white though.

I've spent far more time anguishing over which of the many knitted things I've made to take with me. I know if I look at the baby I've made wearing a cardigan I've also made I might have a complete emotional meltdown...

LozzaOB1984 · 10/05/2015 09:31

I like banana skins

Gillian1980 · 10/05/2015 10:31

We've got a little outfit from Morrisons which I hope will fit for her first outfit - lovely soft baby grow, white with some little koalas on it. Matching vest, hat, scratch mits.

Other than that we just have a huge stack of vests and baby grows that we've inherited as hand me downs. Most not to my taste but I'm so grateful to have been given them as it's saved us a fortune and we're on a tight budget.

fruitpastille · 10/05/2015 10:38

JoJo maman bebe for my DDS first baby gro. White with small stars. Nicer quality than supermarket. Next do good ones too.

SycamoreMum · 10/05/2015 10:38

My DD came home in a dusky pink Burberry babygrow. After 78 days in hospital I wanted to make it ultra special for her, she wont remember it but there will be pictures Smile

After that it was white and pink babygrows from Asda and sainsburys.

BookSnark · 10/05/2015 12:31

I'm thinking maybe I should rechannel my hunt to the 'perfect' blanket - to wrap round the plain white tesco sleepsuit.

I literally can't find anyone but supermarkets who'll sell me a plain white babygrow & vest.

I do have a pile of cellular blankets from DD2 - and I crocheted her a little blanket - but no way I'll have time to make anything for this bump.

John Lewis definitely do plain white vests and babygros.

maamalady · 10/05/2015 16:57

DD's first "outfit" was a white vest with blue edging and a picture of Godzilla (sorry, John Lewis's Dino City) on it. I saw them, loved them, so that's what she got Grin She didn't wear a sleepsuit for a few days as the weather and the hospital were crazy hot last summer.

CuppaSarah · 10/05/2015 18:14

A pretty sleep suit bought by a loved one and a hand knitted cardigan. That way they're snuggeled up in love from their wider family, whilst snuggeled up in your arms.

aletea · 10/05/2015 19:47

I don't think I dressed DC2 for a day!

Kasey86 · 10/05/2015 19:59

DS came home in a navy babygrow and matching hat.
