Nursing bra measurement at Mothercare?

I've heard that I can get measured for a nursing bra at Mothercare, but I'm only 35 weeks, so obviously my milk hasnt come in - so when should I go and get measured?

Has anybody else been measured at Mothercare, and if so did you keep your bra on? And what type of bra is best to wear for the measurement - I always wear padded underwired, is that ok?

I would NOT recommend mother care. Their measuring is BAD.
I had 2 bras from them and they were SO bad.
I went to bravissimo and actually got a decently fitted nursing bra.

The problem is there are not really any lingerie shops in my town. I have the option of Mothercare, Debenhams and Boux Avenue, the latter I would have to travel to another town for and are more for sexy underwear than maternity things - in fact I think they don't have any maternity wear. Do you think it's a good idea to try and measure myself?

From the options you have listed, Debenhams is the one most likely to have a decent range of sizes, unless you are smaller than a 32 band size (size 10ish).
You can measure to get an approximate start size using this guide and allow yourself a little more room in the cup for expansion.

If you post your measurements then we can make further suggestions Smile

I used to be a maternity bra fitter Parsley and I've managed to fit myself.

The best thing to do is get a fitting somewhere good and then buy bras online if you think you won't get a great selection where you live.

Have you looked up lingerie boutiques in your area? Independent shops usually have the most up to date training and better access to niche bras like maternity.

I'm wear hot milk ones I had to order online but they are a dream and gorgeous it's more comfortable and supportive than my usual one!

If you need any advice let me know x

Try m&s. I went when I was about 32 weeks and was told no point in buying maternity for the sake of 6 weeks or so and to come back at 38 weeks (or two weeks from due date) for nursing bras. I have been really impressed with them although I couldn't get the size I needed there in the end! X

M&S also has no idea about fitting. Ideally, you should get properly fitted after you have had the baby, it's really hard to predict what size your boobs will be. To get you through the first weeks, get one of the stretchy options, like Bravado Silk, that accommodates several sizes.

M&S = no. Don't do it.

I too vote for not using Mothercare or M&S. Mothercare told me I was a 40C, despite being a 34FF going into pregnancy!
As others say, Bravisimmo are good, or can you get to a John Lewis? I also found them to be good. Otherwise yes, go to Debenhams to get measured or do it yourself then order online. I've found Bravado nursing bras really comfy too they come in dual cup sizes, eg 36G/H so they're stretchy.

LorryHen · 09/05/2015 15:19

Alcoholicsunanimous, the exact same thing happened to me!! I was a 34FF and was told I was a 40C which is just so so wrong.

They also asked me if I lift weights which is just the weirdest comment ever as I'm not broad or remotely in shape it was all a bit strange.

HazleNutt · 09/05/2015 15:45

ouch those poor boobs M&S stuffs into wildly wrong sizes, can you imagine how uncomfortable you would have been breastfeeding in bras of that size!
