Four Soft Markers found on anomaly scan - anyone experienced this?

Four soft markers were found on my 21 week anomaly scan - Hyperechogenic bowel, Echogenic foci in heart, Chorus plexys cysts on brain, Pelvic dilatation (enlarged kidneys).
I am only 24 and this altered my risk of trisomies to 1 in 200, and risk of Cystic Fibrosis also very high.
We opted to have an amnio which has come back clear on everything. But am still going out of my mind with worry that something must be seriously wrong. I have tried to be research on google and mumsnet to find out if anyone with so many soft markers has gone on to a healthy baby but cant find any examples, all I can find is that having at least one come up is incredibly rare.
I am 23 weeks pregnant now and this has totally transformed the way I view the pregnancy. If everything works out I will be a nervous wreck by the time the baby is born.
If anyone has any experiences similar to this I would reaaly appreciate hearing them. X

Very best wishes Puzzle...I thought that amnio was a definitive diagnostic test? if yours is fine then do you need to still be worried? (sorry for my ignorance)

Thankyou for your kind words everyone.
I probably shouldnt be worried anymore - I am certainly feeling more positive!
Unfortunately I am a natural worrier and being pregnant my emotions are much more heightened than usual.
Even though the amnio result didnt show anything abnormal I am stll concerned that there could be something else that couldnt be identified from this. X

My last baby had echogenic bowel and I was given the same risks as you with regards to downs and cystic fibrosis.
was told amnio was only way to rule out problems ( though with rider that is wasnt a perfect test) Elected not to have it done but agreed to regular growth scans from 28 weeks as echogenic bowel is independently associated with growth retardation.
Baby was born fine though had a horribly anxious pg and first few months with her
good luck, stay positive, usually these things work out OK. 1 in 200 was almost the same as my age rtelated risk of downs anyway at 35

Good news .
Had scan today and all of the soft markers, apart from echogenic focus in heart, appear to be gone. Apparently this last one is not really any cause for concern in isolation.
I am hugely relieved, although because baby is still considered to be at slight risk of kidney problems because of the dilatation indicated on previous scan so consultant is not sure that the home birth I wanted would be a good idea.

hi all,
i am new to this
i am 22 years old and 24 weeks pregnant.
at a recent scan, they have told me that my baby has an echogenic focus on the left venticle and 2 smaller echogenic foci on the anterior right chest wall...i am soooo sick of worry i have been dreaming of it and all, the midwife said that there is nothing to worry abt as everything else seems normal and that there are no other markers.
this was a SUPER extra unplanned pregnancy and me and my partner have had the hardest time deciding whether to keep baby ir not as our situation is very bad... i don't think that i would manage to have a baby with DS...
i have had a TORCH test done and still waiting for the results...
has anyone had the same as me and their baby turned out fine?
i really don't wanna have the amnio and the midwife said that i don't have to as my chances are very low...
thanks for any kind words xx

Hi Myrlabelle, and welcome to MN . Sorry you're having to go through such a worrying time. A echogenic focus just on the margins of the heart was found during 20 week scan with dd3, and also dilated renal pelves (another 'marker'). I had the TORCH test done and all was clear, though it was a worrying wait. DD3 was born perfectly healthy, but I rememeber how truly awful the anxiety was. Maybe try ringing ARC? (Antenatal results and choices) They were extremely helpful when I wanted to discuss what the sonographer had found, and really put into perspective the 'markers' on the scan. I think as your midwife has said, with no other markers you really are very much at low risk, and you are so young too, so all in your favour. Good luck, and let us know how you got on
