Help! Hot tub!

So I'm going away tomorrow to a lodge with a group of ladies, it's got a hot tub!!!

I know it's advisable to not go in but can I go in for like say 10 minutes per hour or something like that?

All advise and help will be greatly received!

TIA

I think you can't use hot tubs for the same reason you can't have hot baths. You can't regulate your temperature as well and it can stop the baby getting nutrients.

MissTwister · 07/05/2015 19:22

Its not advised as it heats your core temp......why would you want to?

Swifey · 07/05/2015 19:25

It's not only that I'm afraid, it's because of infection. The motors that zush the water around are filthy, and stay full of water even when the hot tub is drained and refilled! Yuck!

I wouldn't myself! See below.

Just dangle your feet over the side for a bit, sure that can't do any harm. and provide the rest of the party with top ups of wine

cryingbabymess · 07/05/2015 19:37

I was thinking of just dangling my feet over the edge but keeping baby out the water, would that be ok? Just from my knees down? This has been booked since last year.

I went to a spa at about 35 weeks last time I was pregnant. I didn't use the hot tub as it was too hot (I looked on their website beforehand) plus the thought of pumelling water jets on my tummy worried me but I did go in their hydro pool thing which was warmer than a normal pool. If it's one where you're staying perhaps you can adjust the temperature? I can't remember how hot too hot is but I should imagine 38? would be your limit as it is when you bath baby. Double check and you might be able to go in for short periods. Otherwise leg dangling would be fine. Enjoy! X

I have to confess I went in a hot tub a few times when pregnant, at the time I didn't realise you weren't meant to. I then panicked in case I'd done some massive damage to the baby, but he was fine. It seems to be common in some countries for pregnant women to use hot tubs. I think as long as you are careful not to go in for long and avoid overheating it should be fine.

cryingbabymess · 08/05/2015 19:12

Well I'm dangling my feet in! Hmm Not going to chance going in tho.

I went in a hot tub a few times at 8 weeks. We'd hired a chalet though and were there with a group of friends so they just turned the water down to 35 degrees so there was no chance of it heating me up past body temp (which is approx 37.5 degrees). From my research the only risk is that of overheating. The baby is well protected in there from germs and bubble jets!!

cryingbabymess · 09/05/2015 08:48

We aren't allowed to touch the temperature however I noticed that it was down at 35 so I took the opportunity to jump in! So if that happens again tonight I'll be fine to go in?

Well a birth pool is around 36/37 degrees so i can't see the temperature being a problem for a short stint. However the recycled chemicals and germs would really put me off.

paxtecum · 09/05/2015 09:02

Love, does the joy of being in a hot tub for 10 minutes out weigh the fact that you are pregnant?

Ask yourself how upset you would be if you had a miscarriage.
Why would you take that chance just to sit in a skanky hot tub full of everyone's germs.
Just dangle your legs.

paxtecum · 09/05/2015 09:06

When you are sitting in a hot birth pool you are in there to actually give birth.

Op will be 13 weeks pregnant and doesn't want to give birth yet.

Skiptonlass · 09/05/2015 12:37

Just dangle your feet in.

And make up for it by booking an extra treat with something you can do.

MissTwister · 09/05/2015 17:27

The NHS guidelines say not to do it as it can be dangerous for baby and potentially cause birth defects. No matter how many times you ask if it will be okay no one can guarantee it for you one way or another! All anyone can do is either offer personal opinion based on not much or refer you to official NHS advice.
