Advice - chicken pox risk

Hi, can anyone advise/reassure me.... a girl in my team has just come in laughingly saying that someone she spent the weekend with has now got chicken pox and she hasn't had it, so is waiting to see if she gets it.

I'm 8+1 and did have chicken pox when I was little - am I at any risk at all?

Thanks.

No. If you had them already you will be fine as will your baby. DS got them when I was 18 wks with dd1 and she is fine.

Sorry, should have said the dr explained to me baby was at no risk.

Thank you - just had a bit of a panic!

You should have a word with her anyway, some pregnant women, like me, have no immunity and there are vulnerable groups it is dangerous for. She won't find it funny getting it as an adult though!

My little boy had chicken pox when I was 25 weeks. My GP sent me for a blood test (to check my immunity) as a precaution because my parents were not certain that I had it when I was small.

If you are worried, ask your GP to check your immunity - although if you had it already, it is very, very likely you'll be immune and absolutely fine.

I have warned the other pregnant person (that I know of) at work, so hopefully it will all be ok.

DH had chicken pox a few years ago. I didn't catch it as I had it when I was a child. It was awful. He had 2 weeks off work and probably wasn't himself for another 2 weeks after that. And he's normally really healthy. The scars are only just fading. I wouldnt be laughing if I was her. It can be really nasty in adults!

She sounds like an absolute idiot laughing about knowingly spreading chicken pox. A woman at my work came in with mumps and was sent straight home - the last thing an employer wants is a lot of staff off at once. I think about 10% haven't had it
