Induction?

Hi all, needing some advice please and I know you are the ones to ask! I've been having a lot of bother with my back, I'm barely able to walk and sleep is just not happening! I saw my consultant today (I'm 34 weeks) and he wants to see me in a couple of weeks, if I'm still in my current state I'm going to be induced at 38 weeks to have a natural birth.
I'm concerned mainly cause I've heard mixed messages about induction and also because I think my pain levels are going to be something I can't tolerate. All the midwives that I've spoken to suggested csection but my consultant seems to think the natural way will be safer.
I'm so confused, I thought I'd leave my appointment happy that id eventually have a birthing plan but I feel like I'm going to burst into tears because I am used to being sore(my back pain is a chronic issue) but I can't imagine being in even more pain and trying to push a baby out even with an epidural if needed.
Am I being silly? What does everyone think about induction?

I was induced at 39 weeks... My waters broke aabout 4 hours after pessary inserted and DS was born 2 hours 19 minutes later.. I have only had one child so nothing to compare. I don't think it was necessarily any worse than if I had gone full term... It sounds like you are in so much pain it will be a relief

I've been induced twice and 1 natural gone into labour. many people say inductions hurt more they don't, induction cuts out the build up of slow labour so you feel it regular and strong straight away. On both inductions I felt contractions straight away around 5 min apart they gradually lasted longer as I dilated, my labours progressed very quickly once established 3hrs for dc2 1 hr 12mins for dc3 I didn't really have much time for any other pain relief than gas and air. Given your circumstances they may let you have an epidural soon as you start feeling contractions but be aware this does mean your pretty much strapped to the bed for your entire labour

I was 41+5 when I got induced with DD. I think managed ok with the pain as long as I was waking around. It took a while for things to get started for me but I think they were to slow to break my waters as it was so busy.

Once waters broken I got an epidural and got to 6cm dilated. I then didn't progress very much and had an EMCS. Afterwards they thought baby was too big ams im tiny! and that's why I didn't progress. I'm 15+2 today with no.2 and considering an ELCS. Hope it all goes well for you. Xx

I feel for you, lilmiss I have suffered chronic back pain during this pregnancy due to a slipped disc. I am 38.4 and having a c section next week. Have you seen a consultant for your back ? I got mine to write a letter to the consultant I saw about my birth plan recommending one. If you have this I think it would be hard for them not to give you one if of course this is what you wanted . The other option was induction. I was induced with my son and it was ok Once the epidural kicked in. Good luck

My consultant and pain team doctor both seem to think that natural birth would be easier with epidural etc. part of me is nervous cause I think that if I cant deal with the pain would I be more stressed going for a emcs than an elective? Ill speak to him again next time I see him and ask. I am just sick of feeling this sore and feel that Im a let down but not managing to deal with this Sad

Thank you, im normally a lot chippier about it but today has been a particularly bad day. Ordinarily im sore on a daily basis and deal with it as best i can (full time job etc) i think the extra weight and bump isnt helping! Im happy to have an epidural but i think im worried about the level of pain that i am in daily and then contractions on top of it makes me feel completely sick. I just want to have my baby in the best way possible for the baby and i dont want to get worked up and worried.
