I've been a Nanny for nearly 8 years (hence the name!!) and finally I can look after my own baby from November time onwards!! Very excited. I don't want to go to antenatel classes but I also don't want to miss the opportunity to meet other Mums in my situation nearby to me. Is there anyone out there to help??

Aha - a fellow nanny!

We are almost the same except I had my dd in Feb. Don't know of anyone yet who is due in Nov but if I do I'll get them to contact u on this thread. Where in Wilts are you?

littlerach · 30/04/2004 20:00

I am due in July, sure that there is someone on the Oct thread in Devizes. I live in West Wilts.
See the mumsnetters meetup threads on Wilts and Bath for even more of us!!
How are you doing?

Welcome to mumsnet NannyJo.
You will soon find out why I love this site so much.
BTW it is VERY ADDICTIVE

MadameButterfly · 30/04/2004 20:45

TRy posting on the Mumsnetter meet-ups board as well.
I am sure that there are other mumsnetters in the area.

I'm doing really well thanx littlerach, I have been reading up on other mums to be that are around the same stage as me and I think i've got off quite lightley so far. You?? must be growing well now. I can't wait for that to come but it seems like ages away at the moment.

Cuppy, I bet it feels good to be on the other side of child care now. I can't wait for my turn to come. How did you find working in late pregnancy?? how long did you stay before maternity leave kicked in?? I have a really demanding job at the mo and do worry about that

Whereabouts in Wilts are you?
Are you working at the mo?
Will you go back after the baby is born?
I am doing ok, quite tired as it is hard to get comfy at night.

NannyJo · 01/05/2004 18:09

I'm in Swindon. Still working, i'm only 14 weeks at the moment so hope to work until i'm about 30 weeks plus but it all depends on what I can do, the longer I work the longer I can have off with my baby before I return to work. Is this your first baby??

Nannyjo - Its fab to be fimally looking after my own - you'll love it.

I left work at Christmas - I was 34 weeks so I had 6 weeks by myself before dd arrived. I could've worked longer but I realised this was the only time in my life I would not have to work , or look after any children( as I didnt have any then ) so I took full advantage of hwving 'me' time. It was great. I had two boys to look after - 3yrs and 1yr so it was a very physical job and I'm glad I left when I did.

The downside though is that this me time ate into my maternity as I'm going back , so dd will be just 18 weeks when I go back.

How old are your children and where in Swindon are you - Ive probably seen you around. Did u qualify at North Star?

You're going back to work? How did your employer take the news? Hopefully they'l be understanding - towards the end my boss was quite happy for me to sit and watch the children more and talk to them - she didnt expevt me to get down on the floor so much with them anymore. I was very lucky.

MadameButterfly · 01/05/2004 21:54

Cuppy, NannyJo is my SIL. They don't have any children at the moment. They moved from Reading to Swindon a few years a go, so I am not sure where she qualified

NannyJo · 02/05/2004 12:47

Hi Cuppy, I trained over in Reading and have worked in Swindon for three and a half years in Baydon, Lambourn and now Hungerford. Haven't told boss yet that is a job for this week coming, V nervous lets just say I think it could be awkward. As for getting on the floor to play with children, I never have time to do that with all the other demands that come with this job (change bed sheets 3xweek, cook 2x 3 course meals fresh every day, 'daily walk' is in my contract, activities everyday, clean toys, tidy rooms three HUGE piles of ironong a week!!) I miss my old jobs cos they were more 'normal'. never mind only 5 and half months to go. Where did you work?? I'm sure if I don't know you one of 'the Nannies' I know will. Are you going back to the same job?

Bloody hell N.J - how many hours a day do you work to get all that done? Sounds like they need house keeper/cleaner too so that you can actually do what you were trained to do - interact with the kids! How old are they btw?

Good luck with telling them your news this week - please keep us posted. I dreaded telling my boss but after the initial shock she was fine. Do u hope to go back there when babys here?

Yes I'm going back to same job but they're being very accomodating and letting me go part-time - just 3 days a week now. I go back first week of July. We need the money otherwise I'd love to be a sahm. How about you.

NannyJo · 03/05/2004 21:53

Cuppy, I work 4 days 8.30-6.30. Fridays off which is nice. When I took on the job it was semi 'normal' but gradually things get added to make it nearly impossible. Hey ho! I look after 2 boys 2 and 7 months. telling boss 2morrow so will let you know how it went.

Havent heard from you yet Nanny Jo - hope telling your boss went ok or did you bottle out? Scarey stuff hey? Pls let me know.

NannyJo · 06/05/2004 19:43

Hi Cuppy, Told her tuesday and got a good reaction which pleased me. However when I went back in on Wednesday I felt she was being 'awkward'. She wrote down a list of my duties in 'the daily diary book' after being there over a year and it not happening before it seems a bit of a coincidence it happens then!! I think it was a reminder that I still have a job to do even if I am pregnant. Lets just hope it's not like this for the next 5months. Also being awkward about antenatal appointments. Not too long now. It just feels like a bit like a prison sentance at the mo. How are you and your little one?? When do you go back to work? where abouts is that?

Hi NannyJo,

Well at least you've got the worst bit out of the way. How long have you been employed by them and are you going back to them - what did she say abou this?

DD and I are fab - I love her soooooooooo much - its mental - thers nothing like it! Just you wait and see!

I go back to work beginning of July. Only 7 weeks to go. I work in Lydiard and have been there 3yrs now. Dont know any nannys in Hungerford though but Im sure theres nanny's we both know out there somewhere!
