When did your DC start going to bed later?

DS is nearly two, still needs his lunchtime nap and goes to bed at 7 but seems to be taking much longer to actually sleep now, and doesn't seem as tired. He usually sleeps til half 6,7 but has been waking at 6,half 6 consistently for a little while now.

Just wondering if he might be ready for a slightly later bedtime. I thought he'd be older when this happened though!

Mine didn't go to bed later, they dropped the nap

Yes, drop the nap before later bedtime.

Mine started going to bed a bit later, and being a lot more flexible with their sleep times, when they were around 3.

DS is 20 months and is going to bed at 9, has been doing that for ages now. By then he's suitably tired, but not cranky, and falls asleep in a few minutes without any fuss.
He still has a long nap in the afternoon, which I'm not planning to drop any time soon. Works better for our family.

My 5 yr old still goes to bed between 7 and 7.30, unless it's the weekend.
Would look at reducing or dropping the nap before making bedtime later and with the lighter mornings 6 to 6.30 isn't uncommon.
Try blackout lining if you haven't got them already.

I'm thinking that if he still needs the nap, but does not want to go to bed in the evenings, why make your own life difficult by insisting he stays awake when he's sleepy, and goes to sleep when he's not?

CremeDeSudo · 03/05/2015 14:06

Hazle, that was my thoughts tbh. I think I'd only make it half 7 rather than 7. We've got a black out blind.

Also just realised I posted in pregnancy instead of parenting! Blush

It depends what works best for your family. I work from home with no childcare so I've kept the two hour nap and dd goes to sleep at nine - she's 3. If I dropped the nap id never work!!
