I've done lots of research and really keen to make a placenta smoothie after the birth. I've found lots of recipes. But nowhere does it say how to store the placenta or how many days to drink it for. I know that research is minimal but just wondered if you or anyone you know have made placenta smoothies and what you did?! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Well, being an obstetrician doesn't actually either require or automatically confer any level of expertise about placenta encapsulation. I certainly don't discount the possibility that he was right about it anyway, but would still be interested to hear about this plenty of evidence. Nobody seems to know what it is, though...

You also miss the point when you talk about why kuru isn't a risk here. The relevance of the kuru point is not to suggest OP will get it. Rather, it's to show how silly it is to say that people don't keep doing things when they kill them. Just imagine it was the 60s and we were talking about Papa New Guinea, and someone came out with that!

And yet humans continuing to do stuff that could be fatal happens every single day. Yes smoking is another good example. With that in mind, and as the obstetrician probably has a fairly detailed knowledge of one such practice in particular, it would be surprising if that's what he meant. If it was, he's obviously not thought much about FGM.

Timely thread

An article (published yesterday) about a mother who was banned from using placenta to make smoothies for new mothers

Magistrates granted an emergency hygiene prohibition order to the council on Friday, after concerns were raised over safety because the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria can be present on human placenta.
