Hi
I've come back from the drs this morning due to having pain and discomfort in/around my ear going into my jaw/neck top gums. I thought it was due to a sinus infection that i had (just finished l;ast lot of antibiotics yeaterday) but sjesaid there was no signs of infection and thinks its nerve pain and to start taking amitryptiline again for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.
I was on a small dose of this when i found out i was pregnant but was told by the drs to stop as soon as i found out.
Im really worried about this, ive already taken 2 lots of antibiotics since falling pregnant and am concerned about how all these drugs are affecting baby, not to mention the side effects on an already exhausted me.. she looked in her bnf to douyble check but looking on the internet theres so much conflicting things :(
Has anyone taken amitryptiline in pregnancy, esp in first trimester? was baby alright?

I am taking it now. The research that we/ our doc found is in small dozes there is no scientific research of damage to the fetus.
Without it I take 30 pain killers a day ( not just paracetamol) so for me, the baby is better off with the 10mg of Amitryptiline that all the other drugs. On booking my midwife told me she took it throughout her pregnancy aswell and all was fine, so that helped reassure me.

thankyou its so difficult during pregnancy wwhen you are in pain and there is limited data and 'safe' drugs to take. x

I am on amitriptylin as well and have been for years. I reduced the dose when I found out I was pregnant but there's no way I could stop completely. The obstetrician told me that a low dose is fine - she'd rather see a "healthy" mum on medication than a "sick" mum off the meds...
