bicornuate uterus anyone?

I am 23 weeks and have one of these weird shaped wombs. Was told that chances of losing baby higher than normal - fingers crossed as pregnancy progresses onwards. Even paid an arm and a leg for a private cervical length scan to see if any signs of prem labour. I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge or experience of bc uterus - how worried should I be?!! Had MMC at 10 weeks 2 years ago so a bit paranoid anyway!

Yep I have one, was discovered during a scan at 8 weeks with my dd1. I was having the scan because of heavy bleeding and they did discover that I had been carrying twins but had lost one.
The doctor said I would have really struggled to carry twins to a safe number of weeks with the shape of my womb anyway.

Anyway since then it hasn't really caused me any problems. Dd1 was in a transverse position from quite early on and unable to turn right way up because of lack of space, so I had a c-section at 38 weeks, dd was perfectly fine and healthy and is now nearly 9yrs old. I had no signs of early labour at all, although I had been warned alot about this.

I had been told that it can be hard to concieve with a bicornuate uterus but I certainly didn't find that.
With dd2 I had no problems throughout the pregnancy until 34 weeks when I went into labour. Dd2 was delivered by c-section and spent 2 weeks in scbu but was fine. They weren't sure wether the early labour was caused by the shape of the womb or an infection and I never found out for sure.

I then had Ds and had no problems connected to the shape of womb at all, except he was breech too, again cos of lack of space.

Basically I have had very few problems because of it. Obviously I can't say wether you will go into early labour or not, but please don't let people scare you by them going on and on about it. I was petrified when pregnant with Dd1 but never even had a twinge before I had the section.

Hope everything goes ok for you and your baby.

I have, though only slightly - in fact its only been picked up on by one sonographer over years of fertility treatment and scans. But as that one time was when I was 28 weeks pregnant with dd, it was still noticeable and therefore fairly significant. She was born at 39+ weeks, by section....she was transverse till 36 weeks, turned head down but bobbed back out and went oblique lie as soon as I started contracting: probably due to lack of space.

This time, I'm 35 weeks+ and again...transverse. dd2 due to be born by section at 38 weeks, other than that - no problems.

I had lots of early miscarriages before both pregnancies, but nothing to do with shape of uterus.

Good luck with the rest of your pg, hope it stays uneventfull and, if at all possible, unworrying!

My bicornuate uterus was only discovered at C-section of DS - He was small (despite being 2 weeks overdue) and had been transverse for most of the pregnancy - then he was breech but turned round with an ECV. None of this was necessarily related to the uterus shape - Its one of those things that depends on how strongly bicournuate it is, which is very difficult to tell once you are pregnant I wouldn't let it worry you it won't necessarily cause you any problems.

Thanks everyone, i feel a bit more confident knowing that it hasn't caused major problems for you. i wish doctors didn't always feel the need to give you the worst case scenario in technicolour detail! I suppose they're just protecting themselves but it causes such a lot of worry and stress.

I have a bicornuate uterus too! I am about to have my 3rd DC by c-section. They have all been breech/transverse because of lack of room and all over 8lbs. The fundus is pretty big on mine so I really have half a "working" uterus. They tried to turn mine by ECV but because of shape they were basically stuck. I have never had any problems conceiving though I have had 4 missed m/cs which I have since been told could be because of uterus shape, as the left side isn't viable, but that's just me.

They don't let you got into labour once they have established it is stuck in transverse/breech (unless you want a VB for breech of course).

Don't worry at all and don't listen to scare-mongers, speak to your OB if you are worried.

Hi everyone, This is my first posting although I have at times read through many threads. I have also recently found out that I have got a bicoruate uterus. Unfortunately I have had 3 mmc in the last year and a half. I have had all the blood tests and although hopefully redherring that I had an immune disorder nothing appears to be wrong and apparently all of my mc have not been due to my uterus. This in some ways is reassuring but have now been told that I have a higher risk of later miscarriage. I so want to have a healthy pregnancy but am so scared!! I remember how excited I was to be pregnant first time round but so worried during the last two. It doesn't make it any easier when I know of so many poeple at the moment having uncomplicatd pregnancies and half the time not even planning to get pregnant in the first place. My sister in law is also due to have a little girl in Feb and I see her most days! It is really reassuring to hear from others in the same situation but who have now got healthy children. I hope eveything is going well with you Ettenna - all being well you must be about 30 weeks now.
