After taking the pill...

I stopped taking the pill at the end of November, and expected to get pregnant instantly like I did the first time. Then, I had been on the pill for 15 years and when I stopped I had my first period 28 days later, and then was pregnant the next month, then 28 days after ds was born I got my period and started taking the pill again. Now, I've stopped taking it again to try for No. 2, and my cycles have been 35, 38 and 39 days long, and so far no luck getting pregnant. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I've suddenly ended up with irregular/long cycles? Do you think I'm having an early menopause? If I go to the Doctors now will they think I'm stupid for not leaving it longer?

Hi Paula1, similar thing happened to me. GP said that taking the pill for a long time means that the body can take a good while to revert to normal ovulation and 'normal' cycles. Did you have 28 day cycles before going on the pill? If I were you I'd get a check up and blood test to examine hormone levels to find if there are issues to address or if its just a matter of time. All the best.

Sniksnak, I did have regular cycles before going on the pill around 30 days, but I went on the pill at 16, so it's kind of hard to remember exactly! Do you think that it's too soon to go to the Docs? Don't they expect you to try for a year or something before going?

Hi Paula1. I agree that a GP probably wouldn't start proper fertility investigations at this stage, but I would imagine that if you went just to voice concern over the length of your cycle length and discuss testing for hormone levels s/he should be helpful.

If you were having an early menopause I'm sure you would have other symptoms that would concern you - perhaps any knowledgeable mumsnetters can talk about what these are.

Let us know how you get on.
