Repeatedly getting glucose in urine, GTT negative few weeks ago, should I worry?

I'm 32.5wks with DC3 and since about 23 wks at nearly every appointment I've had between 1 and 3 + glucose in my urine. I'm having lots of extra checks due to high BP etc. so have had my urine done every 2 to 3 weeks. I had the GTT at 24 weeks (was going to anyway due to BMI of 31 so it was just brought forward), they said it was ok but the higher end of OK apparently. But since then the glucose has always showed up apart from once.
I was going to ask at my last consultant clinic appointment but then of course it was clear that day, since then I had +3 with my community midwife. She didn't seem too bothered as I've had the GTT but the test was some weeks ago now, could it have worsened since then? Also I was surprised and disappointed that time as I really couldn't think that I'd eaten much sugary stuff, unlike some of the previous times when I could put it down to Easter eggs etc.!

I do feel quite thirsty at times but don't think I'm urinating more than usual for this gestation.

I know baby is not large/oversized as I'm also having growth scans every few weeks because of history of IUGR in previous pregnancy, currently baby is holding the 10th centile line.

I guess I could follow a diabetic diet anyway but I'm really not sure how to go about that other than the obvious sugary stuff. Tbh I'm not great at controlling what I eat which is why I'm overweight in the first place....

Has anyone had experience of a negative GTT but repeatedly getting glucose? Any cause for concern?

I had it with my DD from about 34 weeks. They kept doing blood tests where I had to fast, but they were all negative. Never found out the cause, but I think it was due to food that I had eaten on that day.

Are you eating a lot of refined carbs as your body will turn them to sugar too?

IWantDogger · 29/04/2015 12:01

Not sure on the carbs really - wholemeal bread, do have white pasta and white rice. Although I said I understand not to eat obviously sugary stuff, I've not exactly been successfully avoiding it.... But then should I make changes? They haven't specified to do so?

Last time it was 3+ it was a mid morning urine sample, 2-3 hours after breakfast which was no added sugar Swiss style muesli with semi skimmed and that's it. I had only drunk one small cup of water so my urine was quite yellow, I guess that would affect the reading?

Have a look at the sugar contrnt etc of the museli. (Even my bran flakes had sugar in)
Could they do another GTT? As if they do an early one they often do later too.
I think main worry is a huge baby/shoulder distorcia etc, but if the baby is measuring small it may not be an issue i guess.

I have gestational diabetes at the mo (I'm not saying you do) but I have found it's often quite surprising foods that can increase your blood sugar levels.

In my case 2 weetabix sent my counts way higher than they are normally and the same happens with grapes. So maybe just track what you're eating for a few days and discuss it with your midwife in case there is anything simple you can do to improve your levels and ease your worries
