Hi there just looking for a bit of advice. Sorry if tmi. And sorry for long post!

My discharge changed around 14-15 weeks. GP said that's normal. Midwife offered a swab so I did one. It has taken 10 days for me to get results - finally got a reply to message i left midwife and it shows group b strep. midwife says she'll get the GP to do a prescription for penicillin. I can pick it up next week - as I'm now on hols abroad and only got results from mw today by text.

am a bit anxious about waiting so long before taking antibiotics. But also see that usually abs only usually used when it shows in urine rather than in swab.

Midwife said normally they don't treat unless symptoms and she counts my concerns about discharge as symptoms.

She doesn't seem worried about me waiting for abs which is reassuring but would welcome others' advice, expertise and experience too!

Don't fancy trying to see a doc while am away unless really necessary!

Thank you!

GBS will only be a problem for the baby during labour so don't worry about it, I'm surprised they're treating you this early tbh. Don't worry yourself it is fine to wait til next week for abx.

Don't worry - GBS is harmless to mums, many carry it without knowing. It can be devastating if the baby catches it during birth, which is why they will be treating it now (even though delivery is a long time off!). It can come and go, so you may be tested again nearer the end of your pregnancy. If it's back then, you would be offered antibiotics in labour to prevent transmission to baby.

thanks for reassurance, will try to relax and enjoy rest of hols and perhaps go see GP when I get back, to see if I really need abx or not.

thank you!
