Maternity tights - anyone got any recommendations?

I wear dresses to work, and now that the weather is improving I'm on the lookout for some affordable thin maternity tights than don't fall down.
Any suggestions?
I've spent £6 on an M&S pair that laddered instantly - which I can cope with if I'm paying £5 for 5 but not at that price!

They're all rubbish - it makes me mad. Mothercare fit and look nice but the gusset ripped first wear...M&S just kept falling down....

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 26/04/2015 17:44

I just used hold ups with the sticky bit at the top, then I could wear them afterwards too

EEvans · 26/04/2015 17:45

So far I've found hold ups to be the best thing. You can get them in primark really reasonably or in m & s but £5 for 2 pairs of their basic range.

Debenhams worked for me but they weren't cheap and might be too thick for the weather (I finished up over a month ago now). Generally didn't ladder them and if they were going to go anywhere it was the big toe

misssmilla1 · 26/04/2015 18:27

ASOS; I have theirs in navy and black. I got the S/M - I'm 5'5 and now about 158lb and 5 months and they still have room to get bigger but they don't fall down

LittleMiss77 · 26/04/2015 18:49

Im really pale and found that the options were gusset-stopping-at-the-knees pairs from M & S or remortgage-your-house-to-buy-them pairs from Debenhams.

Then i discovered a www.fromheretomaternity.co.uk where i managed to get 2 pairs of 10/15 denier in Ecru including postage for about £11. Ordered on the Wednesday, they arrived on the Friday and the Large fit my 5ft 9in, size 14, 29+3 frame perfectly.

HeyMicky · 26/04/2015 18:54

Second the Asos ones - mine have lasted all winter

Mrsmumb · 26/04/2015 20:04

I got 3 pairs from ASOS and they were good lasted countless washes and were comfy

eurochick · 26/04/2015 20:06

I didn't bother. I saw a tip on here to snip an inch or so down the seam at the front of the waist band. That worked brilliantly.

TheFillyjonk · 26/04/2015 20:06

I don't actually like the ASOS ones - they do stay in place but I really hate the feel of the plasticky band on my bump (particularly as its expanded!)

M&S ones are a serious piece of crap. The crotch was permanently falling down to my knees and the top band shows through clothes, making everything look rubbish. Oh and they ladder at the mere sight of a nail!

Boots ones were good for one wear, then laddered.

I do like the H&M Mama Maternity tights but the sizing is on the smaller side. I was just debating whether to buy new ones but now that I've read about Hold Ups, that's what I'm going to do! I particularly like the idea of no bulky support bands showing through my clothes on my bump, no pinging elastic bands or dragging up crotches, no outgrowing the waist and having some air around my knickers

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 26/04/2015 20:09

hold ups here too.

croon979 · 26/04/2015 20:09

I found h&m by far the best for both tights and leggings x

townsender · 26/04/2015 21:03

Thanks for all the tips! Sounds like ASOS and H&M are worth a try... and maybe progress onto holdups if the weather gets really warm. And to do a little experiment with some normal tights and a pair of scissors Grin

Another vote for ASOS!

trilbydoll · 26/04/2015 21:12

Jojo ones might be okay if you just have a bump and no extra weight anywhere else but I found the legs really skinny and so uncomfortable. I think they might be decent tights that stay up, but order a couple of sizes too big!

BeanCalledPickle · 26/04/2015 21:19

The Jojo tights were the most horrendous thing I have ever willingly wrapped around my body. And I say that as someone who made a lot of questionable relationship decisions in her twenties.

allotherusernamesaretaken · 27/04/2015 04:47

Maternity tights are literally the worst invention in the history of the world. They will not stay up for love nor money.
I just snipped down the front of the waistband of normal tights, just a couple of inches to give extra room. This worked a treat!

hestialou · 27/04/2015 06:10

I liked the m&s ones perfect fit, but even the ladder resist laddered after a couple of wears, why its not like I am being more mobile since pregnancy!
Have had two weeks tights free, but now its a little chillier again going to go back to tights Sad

HazleNutt · 27/04/2015 09:50

I bought the M&S 7 denier ones and they are impossible, crotch around your knees like other people have said. I have a few pairs from ebay that are miles better:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maternity-Mama-FIORE-TIGHTS-20-denier-comfort-and-fit-for-pregnant-silhouette-/131026968753?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item1e81d0e0b1
Only trouble with those is that the seam is in the middle of the belly and shows through clothes.

Mama Spanx is really good, but expensive.

CakeInMyFace · 27/04/2015 12:58

I've done the same as allotherusernamesaretaken - been wearing my normal tights and popped a snip in the waistband. I buy 15den ones from boots and they stretch out really well and I get loads of wears out of a single pair. I was on the small side of size small pre pregnancy, but I've never found a pair of maternity tights that weren't hideous!

avocadotoast · 27/04/2015 13:55

Definitely H&M (I was in mine from about 8 weeks!). They do get a little uncomfortable later on but I just bought some more in the next size up and that seemed to help a little.
