What an awful story of a baby dying in a bed nest crib. I was going to order mine today but not sure now. NCT have suspended sales.

There was another thread on this yesterday. From what I gather the instructions weren't followed. The mattress was inclined more than it should have been and the side was not lowered enough. The baby was also put to sleep on the stomach. Had the side been lowered/raised and the baby put to sleep on their back this awful accident wouldn't have happened.

If you follow instructions and guidelines correctly then a bednest shouldn't be any less safe than any of the other crib/cots out there

OneLittleManOneInOven · 26/04/2015 11:03

I haven't seen anything about her being put on her stomach

GingerCuddleMonster · 26/04/2015 11:05

the baby was placed in the prone position (on stomach) it really is a awful tragedy Sad.

Whatabout · 26/04/2015 11:17

The first article I read on this said she was found prone, babies can flip so I wonder which is true. My six week old rolled over in front of a paed in hospital, scared the crap out of me and her!

However a baby dies it is a tragedy, I just hope that it doesn't lead to people practicing bad co-sleeping.

sarkymare · 26/04/2015 11:23

It says she was put down to sleep on her front in each article I have read.

The coroner said Grace was put into the cot on her front but was found by her mother 90 minutes later with her head over the edge of the cot, which restricted her air supply and led to her death. this is from the BBC article.

We were going to get one of these but I'm not sure now. I know it's likely because the instructions were not followed correctly, but now I have this story in my head I think I'd be constantly panicking and worrying. Might get the Snuz Pod instead.

MissTwister · 26/04/2015 12:47

thesmallbear this is how I feel too. I know it was used wrongly but have a niggling doubt now.....

The issue is the bedside mode in this link. Personally I wouldn't be happy using that with any baby. Even those you don't think can roll can learn unexpectedly. I would use the safebridge mode.

Ours is being delivered next week, we've spent all weekend deciding what to do and have decided to keep the order.

It is absolutely awful what has happened but based on the coroners report and official press release (rather than the number of press articles who have not stated facts/missed out facts) I feel that the problem is not with the product but a number of safety factors which put together have caused this terrible tragedy.

SIDS advice was not followed on the position of the baby when put to sleep (I appreciate that some can flip) but also that the baby was left to sleep in another room for about 1.5hrs rather than in the same room. Due to the product being used second hand there were also a couple of instructions in the product manual about the angle of the tilt and the side not being left half folded when baby is sleeping. The coroner seems to be advising that these instructions should be on the product itself as there is now a large second hand market.

We basically decided to use the product - as I also know a number of people who totally recommend the product based on their own experiences but if we get too paranoid, it won't be hard to go and get something else.

RugBugs · 26/04/2015 14:24

A terrible thing to happen but I think blaming the crib when the parents didn't follow safe sleeping advice is a bit odd. I suspect it would be different if said parents weren't legal professionals.
We had one for DD2 and we never used the 'half up' bit. I honestly don't know why you would. Only one side has that half fold but I can see it being removed entirely now.
