Concerned regarding movements

Hello, I am 26+2 with my first baby but I am a little concerned with her movements. I went in to triage yesterday as she is normally kicking and punching the life out of me but she had been really quiet the last few days. They did a couple of scans and checked the heart beat and have booked a growth scan for next week as a precaution. However, I am still a bit concerned that she is not moving enough. They said to go back if I had any other problems but I don't know if I am overreacting or what they could/would do if I went back in. Has anyone been in a similar situation before? Thank you Smile

Go back. They would want you to. If you are concerned go back.

They told me they would rather see a thousand women where there was nothing to worry about than miss one where there was.

I was able to go to a small midwife unit where they listened to the heartbeat -took 10 mins- is that available to you?

I promise I am not scaremongering, my son was fine, but I went twice, once to unit and once to hospital - they said I was right to do so.

HiSmile

You aren't over reacting at all. My MW drilled into me that if the baby wasn't moving how you are used to then you should always get it checked. After all that is what triage is for and I'm sure they would rather you and baby were ok.
Sometimes my baby doesn't move as much so I get a really ice cold fizzy drink then lie on my left side to see if I can feel movement, maybe worth a try?
Given that you have already seen them about reduced movements, give them a call-if for your piece of mind if nothing else.

Fine to go back, but remember that it's good that everything was clear on the checks. Fwiw, 24-26wks was probably the peak of my baby's really violent kicks and movements. Since then things have reduced (not so much in amount but definitely in intensity) but I think that's because they are running out of space to move. The MW said this was normal and that the type of movement does chance from kicks and punches, to rolls, shrugs and stretches. It is hard not to worry though!

Please go and get checked. You are aware the most of your babies normal movements and if nothing else it will set your mind at rest hopefully.

I second the drink a cold drink thing and try and shock them awake, but always always go and get checked if you are worried.

I think I am going to monitor the movements for a couple of hours and then will go back in if it doesn't improve. I would say though that the movements feel different to the kicks and punches I was getting and a bit more like stretches etc like justyowaitandsee mentioned.

I am 26+2 today too and struggle with this. Some days my baby is so much quieter than others - last time I spoke to my MW she said this was normal at this stage and only to worry if I don't feel any movement in a day.

Are you still feeling regular movement just different? I find mind changes day by day - on Thursday it was all massive kicks, yesterday it was more lower down wriggles.

If you're worried phone them and explain the tests you've already had to get their advice maybe.

Nishky · 25/04/2015 08:36

Do you still have to count a number of kicks per day? ( my children are 13 and 11 so may have changed)

I do remember some days I stopped counting at 7:30am and other days it was mid -afternoon, although that may have been later in pregnancy than you.

Sounds like a good plan op.

applecore0317 · 25/04/2015 08:43

Nishky the directive now is to not count the number of kicks but to be familiar with how your baby moves and what routine it has, any changes in routine and movement should be checked out.

Can be difficult though as I am 35+3 and she hasn't got a definite routine, I just know that it would be extremely unusual to go more than an hour without feeling something.

dancinglorna if you are still worried get checked out again, pleased all was ok when you got checked yesterday

applecore0317 · 25/04/2015 08:45

Also as just said, I rarely got kicks from about 28 weeks onwards, she faces inwards mainly so I think I feel less because of that. The movements I get are usually bum and back sticking up and rolling movements

Nishky · 25/04/2015 09:36

That does make more sense re movements.

meeskamooska · 25/04/2015 10:32

I went in due to little movement, and was told after I was checked that if it continues, come back.
They said even if I have to come in the very next day, and even if I have to come in every day of the pregnancy, just come back and they'll check.
