Hey had my 16 week appt today and midwife said I had +1 protein and wasn't concerned but is sending it off anyway. Has anybody got any idea what this means? Should I worry about pre eclampsia at this stage . My bp was okay x

I think protein can also appear with a bacterial urinary infection - try not to worry, if your midwife isn't concerned then it's probably fine :-)

The dipsticks can be a little subjective also I think, which is why they send it away for more in depth testing.

I'm sure it's fine, try not to worry!!

I consistently have protein and leukocytes in my urine according to the super sensitive dip-stick tests, so am forever having samples sent off to check for infections.
They always come back clear. Some people are just like that apparently.
If you've got no other symptoms I wouldn't worry.

I have trace sometimes but it was 1+ really hope it's ok . Would pre eclampsia always be high blood pressure to accompany it.

Probably nothing - can mean you're fighting off a minor infection, or just that your kidneys are working a bit harder during pregnancy.

If they are at all worried they'll do extra tests. A plus one isn't uncommon at all when pregnant :) we take a dipstick (I work in clinical trials) and if there's any cause for concern we'd get another tube and send it off to the lab for a full work up.

How's your blood pressure?

I think pre eclampsia can't officially be diagnosed until after 20 weeks. If you are worried about it, Tommy's (the prematurity charity) do an excellent booklet about it. There are a list of symptoms to look out for, but if your midwife is not concerned, thn you shouldn't be either. They will make you aware if there is a problem.
