Practical baby present for baby no 2

One of my friends has just found out she is having another little girl. Dd1 will be turning one about the time she gives birth. They actually have the same due date. So needless to say she still has everything for a baby. I know for a fact she has about 3 boxes of baby clothes with the labels still on as her family went crazy this time and she has already planned a shopping trip for tomorrow!

Being pregnant with baby no1 myself I'm unsure what a practical gift for someone with two under one would be?

I thought about getting something for the parents but I think it may be a bit rude not to get the baby a gift.

Any ideas?

Thanks

A friend was very pleased with a new Sophie Giraffe, not the kind of thing you'd hand down!

I'm expecting my 2nd boy and my eldest is only 20months and I really don't need any more baby stuff.
I would either get something nice for them or vouchers which they could likely use up for something they actually need at some point.

Get mothercare/john Lewis vouchers? Then she can spend it on practical stuff like nappies if she wants

lexyloub · 23/04/2015 19:15

A bottle of prosecco for Mum and Dad, a small toy for big sister and some boots vouchers or similar for baby then Mum can use it towards anything she may need now or in the future

mrsmeerkat · 23/04/2015 19:19

I recently had number two and agree not clothes

I usually give boots vouchers for close friends as mum could get herself something or buy baby stuff

Nappies were one of my favourite presents

Something personalised. My ds1 got lots of personalised stuff by ds2 didn't so we got some ourselves for him. Nothing major but wall letters

mrsmeerkat · 23/04/2015 19:21

Oh yes, soft play vouchers were nice and we used them for mother and toddler time

Momzilla82 · 23/04/2015 19:23

My favourite gift for ds2's arrival was a lovely bag of stuff to keep ds1 occupied, a freezer bag full of home cooked ready made meals (including child sized portions) and a mahoosive bag of breastfeeding snacks (cereal bars, popcorn, crunchie, curly wurly) and a 500ml water cup with lid. Practical is good.

Something for mum (wine, chocolate, babysitting time IOU)
Something for the older one (big sister stuff, little toy)
Something for the baby (personalised, teddy bear, clay for handprints...)

I usually give useful things regardless of it being the first or fifth baby. The giftbasket that usually goes down well:

  • nappies
  • bum wipes
  • bum cream
  • magazine for mum (you usually don't have time for a book, but a magazine is perfect if you do find 5 minutes of peace)
  • magazine for dad
  • small toy for other children if there are any
  • plaster/clay set for baby's hand
mrsmeerkat · 23/04/2015 22:01

That sounds perfect that hamper

Tiredmumno1 · 23/04/2015 22:13

A MNetter on another thread was letting people know that the johnsons baby box has come down from £25.99 to £8.99 link here

youlemming · 23/04/2015 22:37

since having my own baby I have put together a mini version of the hamper above for any friends having babies, just a few little bits that I know I found useful;

Sock on's
Metanium bum cream (best thing I found to clear rashes)
Mobile dummy steriliser
Sophie Giraffe

Tiredmumno1 · 23/04/2015 23:57

Sorry forgot to add that it is a toys r us link Blush

Bottle of fizz for the adults, a Happyland set for the one year old to keep her occupied during the feeds, and a Taggie (can get personalised ones on eBay) for the baby.

Clairejessica123 · 24/04/2015 09:44

thank you everyone. I like the idea of a hamper especially as a lot of things likes nappies/wipes would be practical for both girls. Will have a search for something nice for mum and dad :)

Get a few nice children books. Not the baby baby ones as they will have some, but some nice stories for 18month-5 year olds as they can use for both then
