Virtually continuous very uncomfy braxton hicks :(

Am 33wks with DS2 and started having Braxton hicks about 25wks. Was not concerned. Last time I had loads of really sore BHs from weeks 35-37, having DS1 at 37wks by forceps when he got distressed.

I was kept in overnight on the prenatal ward twice last time at 35wks and 36wks as they weren't sure if it was very early labour or not, eventually both times just went home with codeine! So I wasn't initially at all concerned about them this time.

Anyway, last 2wks have been having runs of BHs that are pretty sore, feeling like someone has pumped up my uterus to bursting point with a bike pump and giving me some shortness of breath. My bowels and bladder don't seem to like it either and are both sore and getting 'urgency'. I seem to get them for an hour or so then a little break and then they start again. Also bad cold at present and a gum infection which the dentist said was common in late pregnancy (typical!). Spoke to midwife who said see GP, did that on Tuesday - she said to 'rest' and signed me off work!!! Was due to finish in 10 days anyway. Instructions to go to the delivery suite if they become continuous or I get other signs of labour. They don't seem to be getting worse though, just the same, rather debilitating and depressing.

Anyone else had something similar? Don't think there is any solution, just looking for moral support :)

Husband totally unsympathetic - 'this is what pregnancy is like' and 'well you wanted another baby!!', plus DS1 seems to suddenly want cuddles and pick ups continuously and dragging him around is seriously hard. Think they are both just a bit stressed out.

Join the club have exactly the same since 34 + 2. Am 36 weeks now and am finishing work tomorrow earlier than I wanted to because of them. My midwife suggested I have an irritable uterus and looking it up online seems to fit what we are getting. Although the consultants at the hospital did not mention this.

Get your urine sent off for testing (not just dipped). I had this and it was caused by a uti that didn't show up on the dip tests but did in the lab analysis when my clued-up midwife decided to send off an apparently clear sample, just to be sure.

I am so glad this isn't just me. Seem to be getting them all the time. Sat in the car for 90 minutes this afternoon and they were every five minutes. Told the husband who thought I was in labour so had to calm him down (cos defo not). I seem to get them at the drop of a hat from literally rolling out of bed to sitting down to walking. I'm 32 weeks now but been getting them since 22.

Thanks folks. Bit reassured. Spent some time reading about irritable uterus - my GP said that too - probably correct but basically a description of something nothing much can be done about!

Had two urine dips and one sent off last week and they were ok.

Juat have to wait it out i suppose!

This is reassuring I'm not alone too. Guess its something we will just have to put up with. It will be interesting to see if we do go into labour before our due dates as I was induced with my first and wonder if all these tightenings/braxton hicks will mean baby comes earlier this time.

dietcokeisgreat · 25/04/2015 20:25

I'm certainly hoping baby comes before my edd! Now 33+5 and the thought of these braxton hicks contractions until then is seriously depressing. Made it to 37+0 last time but was in tears last few days as the pain was so bad and didn't seem to be leading to anything!

Am booked for a section at 39wks due to previous bad tear that has not been fully sorted, so at least that is kind of a definite end!!

I'm the same. I'm 36 weeks now and get such strong BHs I can feel my entire uterus lifting up into a freaky looking dome shape. SO uncomfortable - but no actual pain so I know they're not the real thing. Google irritable uterus and see if that matches you.

I was exactly the same in my first pregnancy and gave birth on my due date.

seaoflove · 25/04/2015 21:09

I see you've already looked into irritable uterus dietcoke. I'm also having a section at 39 weeks due to a third degree tear - I'm counting the days.

Rolling over in bed is a big trigger for mine too, Mistress!

I had this early last week only mine felt like the real thing, very tight and painful. I went to the hospital and they put me on the monitor as concerned it was pre-term labour. They did the fibronectin test and an examination, test was negative and cervix high and unfavourable so they let me go home and rest. Had a bad night tues and wed and now thankfully its completley settled. Still not sure what caused it though?
