Anterior placenta & movements

30w tomorrow with dc3. My placenta is anterior and I think it is making a big difference to the amount of movement I feel (I was told this was the case). Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm struggling to identify a pattern of movements (running around after dc1 and dc2 doesn't help!) & it's making me anxious.

I am 21 weeks pregnant with dc3, I have anterior placenta and it is totally different to dc1 and dc2. With dc1 & 2 I had regular movements from 17 weeks, I have only felt this baby move a couple of times, I don't like it lol x

I'm 20 weeks with DC3 and agree that anterior placenta seems to make a huge difference. With DC 1 and 2 DH had felt them both kicking by 18 weeks but this time I can feel movement but more like it's doing a series of slow forward rolls rather than kicking IYSWIM.

I had an anterior placenta and I could feel regular movement but I only have one DC so nothing else to compare it to. I did have a lot of "is she still alive" moments though, so maybe that's why. By 30w if I was really worried I would poke her to wake her up or eat ice and lie down on my side for a bit, I could always feel her then.

I had an anterior placenta & movements where hard to feel. I only started feeling them around 22-23 weeks. As time progressed & my belly got huge there was enough of space around (above & below) the placenta where I could feel normal movement. Towards the end the size of the placenta was negligible in comparison to the overall belly/baby.

I have an anterior placenta and I have felt regular movements from 17 weeks. I am 29 weeks now. This is DC1 though so I have nothing else to compare it to but I feel movements pretty much all day every day

FlossieTreadlight · 23/04/2015 06:25

I had an anterior placenta with both my DCs. I did feel movement regularly but often had to stop and think about it or wake them up as a PP said.

If you're ever unsure don't hesitate to call your maternity triage and get checked over.

SophyStantonLacy · 23/04/2015 07:20

Yes, that's how I feel flossie, I have to stop & think about it (apart from at 6am when I am trying to sleep Hmm). It all feels much more muted than with my other two pregnancies.

I'm 18 weeks and have been told that I have anterior placenta, I have felt some movements but nothing like I had experienced with previous pregnancies. I'm feeling a bit cheated actually!

NoodieRoodie · 23/04/2015 13:37

That's just how I feel stolen!! By this point with the others I could put my hand on my stomach and feel plenty of kicking. Especially as I seem to have a decent bump and with DD although I barely had a bump until about 30 weeks I could feel plenty!

geekymommy · 23/04/2015 14:59

I had an anterior placenta with DD. I didn't feel movement until fairly late (I don't remember exactly how many weeks). I was never able to put my hand on my belly and feel kicking that way. But I've also got some tummy fat, which probably had something to do with that.

Number3cometome · 23/04/2015 15:01

Yes! Try not to worry, I had a 4d scan two weeks ago and the placenta was right in the way of baby.

This is DC3 for me, and I defo have days of feeling far less movement (although sometimes he does get in to positions where he moves frantically!)

IssyStark · 23/04/2015 15:09

I had anterior placenta with both my boys and I know that I felt very little compared to my friends (and certainly it was rare than my DH could feel anything), but I did feel movements daily from around 22w.

If you've been used to more movement it probably is very unsettling, and even with dc1 I used to worry, especially when I'd been on my feet all day (walking used to lull him to sleep!). With dc2 I even ended up at hospital a few times due to worries over lack of movement (but that was prob. also due to general fear as it was my 10th pregnancy and only one dc to show for the previous 9).

Try the usual stuff of a very cold drink (would work within 3 secs with dc1 but didn't bother dc2), something sugary (worked with dc2, dc1 never affected) or lying down somewhere quiet (an impossibility with two dc I know!)

Number3cometome · 23/04/2015 15:11

ooh forgot to mention, I was on a monitor in the maternity assessment centre last week (high BP, swollen ankles) and the monitor picked up 127 movements over an hour, I probably felt half of these.

stolemyusername · 24/04/2015 09:28

Will I feel more movement later on with an anterior placenta? I really enjoyed feeling the baby moving in my previous pregnancies, with my youngest I could stroke his bum towards the end and he would stick his feet out Smile as the baby gets bigger will I be able to feel more, will DH be able to feel it at all?

At the moment I feel like a fraud as I have a bump but can't feel anything.

Threesoundslikealot · 24/04/2015 09:34

I'm 38 weeks with my second anterior placenta pregnancy (had one posterior one in between) and by this point there's not much difference in the movements I can feel. So I hope you find the same and get some late pregnancy wiggles. If anything I'd say I prefer the anterior at this point as the squirming is less painful.
