Swollen feet - shoe recommendations

croon979 · 22/04/2015 17:47

I am 33 weeks pregnant and my feet and ankles are so swollen. I went to town today to try and find some comfy shoes and literally couldn't find anything that (width-wise) would fit over my horrible swollen feet. Any recommendations for shoes that are good for sore, pregnant feet....anything but trainers. Thanks!

I had this problem in my pregnancy. All I can say is you're lucky it's getting towards sandals season! I was stuck with Birkies, and 2 pairs of ballet flats (some pointy ones from Oasis and loafer style from Next) which didn't really cover much of the top of my foot iyswim.

My feet did go down after about a week and now DS is 3 weeks they're entirely back to normal size although they are cracked and very dry.

I had to make the transition to a pair of sensible Clarks sandals- got a pair of pink and cream ones (normally very particular about shoes and lots of lovely ones sitting in my wardrobe from house of Fraser! :() but just had to be done as feet are incredibly puffy and with a lot of pelvic pain. Never felt comfort like it and don't think I would be walking anywhere if hadn't of got some!

I just gave in and bought some pretty flats from Primark's wide fit section in one shoe size up last week, they have a padded sole and although I was dubious over quality at £6 they have proved to be a lifesaver. Unlike some of the other styles, these just slip on without having to bend over to help them on.

I find Birkenstocks really comfy. Great for when baby comes as well, they just slip on and off.

BumWad · 22/04/2015 22:40

What about Toms or similar espadrilles

applecore0317 · 22/04/2015 22:54

I've always had awkward feet, wide and small with a stupidly high arch and find NewLook wide fit the best.

PersonallyvI am living in my flip flops, not the greatest support wise but comfy

croon979 · 23/04/2015 08:30

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I am doing some internet shopping for flatties etc today. Difficulty is that from toe to heel I haven't expanded much but width-wise I have gone up at least 2 sizes! Think the solution may well be flipflops but may give Birkenstocks and Toms a try too.

Oh the glamour of pregnancy....

I ended up wearing crocs! DS3 is now 2 weeks old; I've already bought some pretty shoes to celebrate my feet returning to normal size!

I'm wearing birkenstocks and a right comfy pair of vans belonging to my DH Blush

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 27/04/2015 18:41

I've got the same problem, I've just burst through a pair of Vans, Hulk style. I found Clarks extra wide too snug, but Evans extra wide seem bigger.

BlinkAndMiss · 27/04/2015 20:43

Sketchers memory foam sole shoes are very comfy and forgiving, I have them in a size bigger and they ease the pain in my pelvis and hips.

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 27/04/2015 21:10

Memory foam soles on shoes sound amazing!

I 2nd Crocs. They're not all clogs, it's worth pointing out Grin Have a look on the website, there are all kinds of styles including ones like these that are very flexible on a wide foot. I walked all round NYC in these a few years back and can attest they are the comfiest ever!

Bombinate · 27/04/2015 23:04

You should get your bp checked this can be a sign of pre eclampsia

Stinkersmum · 28/04/2015 09:23

Try Evans for wider shoes.

happygojo · 28/04/2015 09:32

I second sketchers go walks. I have a pair in plain black and I am literally wearing them every day and with everything! with my work clothes and with my jeans at a weekend! I got them from sports direct where they are sometimes a bit cheaper, i got mine for £37 but TOTALLY worth it. The sizes are big so I went a size down but they are quite forgiving and you can get them on without bending down... winner!

I got these bad boys last week. Oh my god it's luke walking on clouds. Plus they're made from this woven elastic and they fit amazingly. They do different colours.

hestialou · 30/04/2015 06:56

I tried the cheaper high street shops for shoes but nothing was comfy, ended up in Hobbs spending more than wanted and going a size bigger. Think its just a case of shopping around (last thing want to do right now though!)

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 30/04/2015 11:40

I bought birkenstocks and they were soooo painful. The straps went right across the most swollen part of my feet. I gave them away after a week. Fitflops might work better as they cross higher up.

I bought these - have just found them still on sale after 5 yrs !!
www.shoon.com/womens-shoes/all-sandals/nuria-nuria-taupe-suede.htm

So, so comfy. Soft suede, with elastic bits on the sides so you can get them on when you cant reach your own feet easily plus the elastic stretches to deal with the swelling. Still have them, they weren't wrecked by my elephant feet either.

3 colours - I'm off to buy them again.

Downside, not much use if it's pouring with rain.
