I will have two under two - double buggy?

Found out 6 hours ago i'm pregnant with my second - really pleased though it wasn't so much planned as it was having a babysitter and two bottles of wine Blush.

Anyway,by my calculations my due date is mid december,my first will turn two at the start of January. Would you bother to get a double buggy or use the one we have for the new baby and get a stroller for the eldest? DH works shifts so my thinking is I won't necessarily have anyone to help push two prams but it seems a big expense when my eldest will hopefully be walking ok fairly soon after.

I know out of all the things to be focusing on this is well down the list but now it's in my head i'm obsessing over it! Trying to be practical I suppose

Joovy Caboose (American but can buy on amazon)

Back seat can be a normal seat, refacing bench or standing, without getting in the way of yor feet like a buggy board.

The baby jogger city mini double was an absolute Godsend! My two are 15 months apart and my youngest was in it ( using a newborn nest) from day 1 x

Thanks for posting this up! Was thinking about this too as I'm due around the 10th of dec and my little girl is going to be 2 on the 2nd feb. can you get a double with the carrycot that isn't rediculously priced?? Xxx

I would get a secondhand Phil and teds. Absolutely compact and brilliant.

You can sell it on eventually

Congratulations on your happy news. I have a 14 month gap Grin and its brilliant

I'm thinking about this too. Have been lusting after the baby jogger city select as that has stadium seats so both children will have a bit of a view.

Yes get a double buggy. My DD2 and DD3 are 20months apart.

You won't need it for long though so don't buy a new one.

We were lucky and were given a very old Phil & Teds it was perfect until DD3 was old enough to sit up then I used my existing buggy with a buggy board.

Definitely get a double buggy. I have a baby and a nearly 3 year old. We still use the buggy a lot because the toddler gets tired. And I ain't carrying him!

It depends if you have the tiome / inclination to 'walking train' your elder one.

I was a SAHM when mine were small, and as DS was an early walker, we had lots of time to walk v..eee....rrrr....y slowly everywhere from when he was about 16 months onwards. By the time DD was born, when DS was 2, DS had barely used the pushchair for months and so actually having a buggy board was a luxury for him! In the very early days, i did use sling + pushchair a very few times, but found the positioning quite awkward. Loved the buggy board, and found the 'child between the two handles, baby in puschair' a really usful compact unit for in town etc.

22 month gap and my double was a lifesaver, not even so much for walking from A to B as dc1 was a good walker but for those times when I needed to keep dc1 safe and out of trouble while I was occupied with dc2 out and about (nappy changing, feeding etc).

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2015 19:47

But then my dc1 was an explorer and would set off without a backward glance in a spilt second if not tied down. Yours may stay where you put them?

meeskamooska · 22/04/2015 19:55

I had an 18 month gap and never had a double, but I didn't do much walking really, and on long days out I would sometimes take another single buggy for another adult to push.
If I had no help and no car I would have definitely needed a double.

I went for iCandy peach 3 as it can be made to a double or can be used as single. Thought that would be handy as I'll not always have two as one will be in nursery some days do would be silly pushing a sideways double with only one child.
The peach makes the double using the single chassis frame.
It's quite expensive but In my view a great pushchair/stroller and allows to be very functional and adapts to suit.

I'll have exactly 2 years difference and have been thinking about the same. DC1 walks well and actually does not want to be in the buggy any more anyway. The only trouble is that sometimes he does not want to walk to the same direction we are, or simply decides that he now wants to sit on the road, thanks very much.

But shops will be open once I've had the baby as well. So I've chosen the model that I would buy (Mountainbuggy) and if it turns out I do need it after DC2 is here, I'll get it. If not needed, I won't. I also have sling, carrier and buggy board, so should manage until it's delivered.
