Hi I'm 21+3 and I am getting the worst heartburn, taken the usual rennie's but have had no luck. Any tips? Foods to avoid etc...?

Have you tried the gaviscon dual heartburn and integestion tables, I take them before bed and it has seemed to stop it (I'm 25+3).
Is it happening at certain times during the day or night?

Go and see your gp, they can prescribe tablets and gaviscon which helps a lot,

Whatever you take, take it regularly rather than when you feel the burn.

Gaviscon has worked the best for me.

Prop your bed head up at night (couple if books under each leg should do it rather than loads of pillows)

Gaviscon is the best way to manage and get rid....get it prescribed as it's expensive and you could get through a lot!
If your in a fix without gaviscon, a little milk or yogurt can give you a temp fix.
And when you get annoyed with gaviscon tablets sticking to your teeth, I find that refresher sweets help also, but don't last as long.
As a general rule though avoiding the following delights will limit the suffering:
Fatty foods
Sweet stuff
Caffeine
Chocolate
Booze

You definitely get to a point in pregnancy where Rennie does fuck all. Sounds like you need super strength Gaviscon in a industrial sized bottle - the doctor should prescribe. Be sure to ask for mint flavour though, the aniseed flavour is revolting.

Oh and avoid wine, it fuels the burn Wink

Ranatadine is fantastic (Zantac). One tablet works for ages.

Gaviscon and Rennies had no effect on me.

I know it sounds daft, but I LIVED on 'lovehearts' sweets as well as Rennie/Gaviscon combo when pregnant with DS!

They really helped!

rlt123 · 20/04/2015 21:27

Thank you all for your replies. Seems gavisgon is the way forward will definitely get on to the docs in the morning. Will also give the zantac a go. Will do anything to get rid, even struggling to drink my tea lol.

Ranitidine was the only thing to help me sleep when the heartburn/constant acid reflux got bad. I had been drinking Gaviscon from the bottle before my GP gave me the tablets!

Also a glass of milk and a biscuit before bed. And Lovehearts! Still have a packet I bought at about 38wks and DD is over 1 now! Blush

SheilaTakeABow · 20/04/2015 22:46

I've been prescribed ranitidine which worked pretty well for a while, along with gaviscon, but when it started getting bad again, someone suggested Trebor Extra Strong mints, and they've worked wonders - must be the Trebor ones though, the M&S ones don't have the same effect.

Cornberry · 21/04/2015 08:46

I've been prescribed omeprazole and it works like magic for me. Recommend it - I just asked my GP for it and it was no problem. The foods I've found to be the worst are tomato based things like pasta sauce and peppers so I've stopped eating those.

Gaviscon Advance is the strongest over the counter type of Gaviscon and this helps me. I now get it on prescription so it is free. I would try this before a stronger prescribed medication as it does work for me.
