Exposure to mice droppings / urine in pregnancy

Okay let me start with .. I'm very anxious during this pregnancy . I suffered a stillbirth last year so everything makes me wonder .
Anyway our shed at the back of our garden hasn't really been used all winter . Then last week I went to get some slides and sandpits out for my son and discovered tons of mice poo and urine . I breathed it in and even swept it up as much as I could cleaned and chucked out damaged stuff . Now I googled and read that you can contract serious diseases such as LCMV via mice and all you have to do to catch it is breathe in an area mice live and your more likely to get it if you sweep it up and release the particles into the air. All of which I done and it can pass to baby almost always . I'm 16 weeks . Should I be concerned ?

I would say to not be concerned, but I am a random poster on the internet. If you are particularly anxious I would suggest you speak to your midwife or GP who have the qualifications to actually know what they are talking about, and to set your mind at ease properly.

You are very likely to have been exposed to this before, if it's your own environment - thus the chances are that if you were going to get it, you'd have caught it already. It's a reasonably low risk of catching it, and there are blood tests to see if you've had it / are immune.
I used to work with lab mice, so I'm sure I've got antibodies! If you've had a previous stillbirth of course you're going to be anxious about a lot of things, but the chances of catching anything are very low indeed from a one time exposure. I think you should mention it to your GP next time you visit, but I think you're very probably ok.

I was really worried about this too as we had a mouse problem at work when I'd only just found out I was pregnant. One of my best friends is a midwife and I asked her in a panic and she said she'd never heard of there being any problems from exposure to mice which reassured me considerably!
I would still say talk to your own GP or midwife to be really sure though.

I'm a veterinary nurse and am exposed to a range of nasties on a daily basis. I've got to 36 weeks with no problems on that front and I've never known any of my mummy VN friends to have a problem either.

As far as I am aware, it's incredibly rare. There are blood tests you can request to see if you are already immune though.

Provided you wash your hands, and avoid handling the faeces/urine as much as you reasonably can, the likelihood is you'll be fine x
