I need a bit of advice...

Before I had my BFP, we'd booked a family holiday to Lanzarote in August 2015. However, when we are due to go (for 11 nights), I'll be 33 weeks when we fly out and 34+ when we fly back.
I'm questioning as to whether we go or not, as this is my second pregnancy, and I had Pre Eclampsia from 35 weeks with my DD and had to be induced at 39 weeks.
Do i risk it, or be sensible and postpone the holiday?

Decision may be made for you as you'll likely need a medical certificate to fly at that point and your GP may say don't do it. With your history id personally be nervous flying somewhere so hot so far along in the pregnancy plus I'm not sure whether insurance would be really high.
Shame though. You don't say how far gone you are (and my maths can't work it out!) but if you're past the 12 week scan then I think you will need to decide fairly soon but may be worth checking with your insurance company how late they would pay out for cancellation and talk to your GP about whether they'd be happy to write on your behalf supporting the cancellation.

Just my initial thoughts.

Congratulations though and may this be a smoother pregnancy for you even if it does mean you miss your holiday x

Can you bring the holiday forward?

Purpleball · 18/04/2015 11:15

I'd see if you can bring the holiday forward. Explain that you're likely to have to cancel it. They might not charge too much. At least then you'll still get your holiday

I'd see if you can bring it forward and what your insurance will cover. If you have the same condition again you might not get insurance or fit to fly.
I unexpectedly ended up in hospital at 35 weeks with my 1st so I'd always be cautious of going anywhere far in the 3rd tri due to personal experience. Even if you deliver safely abroad and the care is great you've got to get the baby a passport, fit to fly (usually due date for a preemie) and all the rest of it.
That reminds me, check your insurer covers unborn baby and you, some will only cover you.

I'm 34+3 and have spent the last week or so reaching new heights of discomfort. Trouble sleeping, bump feeling heavy, back ache. So being on a four hour flight would be my idea of hell right now.

Plus would be worth speaking to your midwife to find out the chances of developing pre eclampsia again, as flying can make you swell

Check the airline website as well for flying back as they all have slightly different limits on how pregnant you can be

You can usually change dates if it's more than 10 weeks until you're meant to fly. You might be charged an admin fee per person though.
