My DD is in the same boat.the gp gave her beconase nasal spray which they said was safe in pregnancy. It sorted out the blocked , itchy nose straight away and she can sleep at last. Would go see gp and see what they can do.

HeyMicky · 18/04/2015 03:11

Go to the GP - I have beconase and eye drops now. Has been terrible this year - last time my pregnancy suppressed my reaction but this time I've been waking myself up scratching

MummaMeerkat · 18/04/2015 03:39

When pregnant with ds I used prevalin nasal spray which is available over the counter. My mil swears by a spoonful a day of local honey - aparently this helps to create an immunity to local pollen.

originalusernamefail · 18/04/2015 03:59

I'm usually medicated Mar-Oct for severe hayfever my GP prescribed me Loratadine 10mg during pregnancy. I also used one of those drug free nasal balms and kept my windows shut during the night.

noodle8000 · 18/04/2015 04:39

Wear a mask.

hestialou · 18/04/2015 06:26

Same problem, luckily mine is mainly lillies so should be over in a month....if can take holiday try seaside as my is usually better on the coast.

worriedmum100 · 18/04/2015 07:45

Me too. It's horrid. GP told me that Piriton was the only thing he could prescribe. Piriton is great stuff but it totally knocks me out so not so good when you've got to go to work! Been taking it at night and relying on eyes drops and nasal spray otherwise.

BanKimoon · 18/04/2015 09:48

I had piriton from the GP too, it's horrible isn't it? My hayfever season starts next month. In feb I started taking a spoonful of local honey each morning to try and prevent it this year (ttc at the time) but I'm now 10 weeks and the honey makes me throw up so I'm not hopeful it will work this time!!!! Definitely see your GP, good luck!

Can also use a saline nasal rinse as often as you need. Can buy from Boots or other pharmacy. Also shower, including hair, when you get in to wash away the pollen.

loratidine is ok in pregnancy

That link says the first choice would be loratidine or cetirizine as they are non sedating so don't cause drowsiness

worriedmum100 · 18/04/2015 11:57

Interesting link thanks. Not sure why my GP said that only Piriton could be prescribed in pregnancy?!

Hellohellohowareyou · 18/04/2015 12:43

My Current gp also said only piriton but my old one said citirizine was ok so not sure which one to listen to! I have been given a prescription for piriton today so will start with that I think, when preg with my son I took 1/2 tablet in the morning and 1/2 at night so didn't feel too drowsy and also topped up with eye drops when needed

Rikalaily · 18/04/2015 13:05

My GP prescribed Piriton for gestational rhinitis during my last pregnancy.

lexyloub · 18/04/2015 13:11

Loratadine is fine after 12 weeks

aletea · 19/04/2015 15:22

Care standard is nasal spray and eye drops, then loratadine/ceterizine, then piriton. No harm at all.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 19/04/2015 15:32

The consultant told me I can take Piriton. I never got any because it cleared up pretty much the next day but it's good to know

Iloveonionchutney · 19/04/2015 16:26

Thank you everyone, I'll make an appointment this week.
