Feeling guilty about binge :(

Hi ladies
I'm 23+1 now and generally been eating quite light and keeping up with exercise. Haven't weighed myself but still in my usual size 8-10 so I'm guessing I haven't put more than a few pounds on (especially as I keep getting told I don't 'look' pregnant)
I am not trying to be vain here, but I am very conscious of staying on top of my weight as I had an eating disorder a few years ago and do not want a relapse.
But yesterday and today I've suddenly allowed myself to completely let go. Just now I ate macdonalds for the first time in months. I had a large meal followed by three chocolate bars.
Now I feel so guilty and disappointed in myself I just want to cry :(

Hormones make you do things that you wouldn't normally do, be it yelling at your OH or eating something that you'd never usually touch with a barge pole! Don't give yourself a hard time - weight is bound to go on as you get more pregnant, because the weight of the baby, the placenta (a couple of pounds), umbilical cord, amniotic fluid and womb all weigh a considerable amount in pregnancy. One or two binges does not an overweight person make, so don't beat yourself up about it and don't spiral into feeling you have to exercise/diet to make it right.

Every now and then, you'll want to eat something crazy and that's maybe your body's way of telling you to let go every once in a while. If you feel really panicked, please do seek some professional help Flowers

I think what needs to be addressed more than your little binge is your perspective on weight gain in pregnancy.

At the end of an average healthy pregnancy that goes to full term -

The baby will weigh 3-4 kgs
The amniotic fluid - 1 litre approximately
The placenta - 3/4 of a kg approx
Increased uterine muscles - 3/4 kg approx
Fluids and blood generated by the body to sustain the pregnancy - 2-3 litres
Fat deposits laid down to produce breast milk - 2-3 kgs.

So you are looking at 10-12 kgs for a person who enters pregnancy at an average BMI and eats nutritious, healthy, balanced meals throughout. Gaining far too less than that may not necessarily be the best.

I am not sure what you would have to sound vain about, or what you mean by staying on top of your weight, because this is one time of our lives whe our body creates a human being, an entire new organ to feed that human being and litres of fluids and blood and fat to support that human being. This translates Into weight gain.

Your macD meal and the choc bars aren't a problem, trust me. I am not very sure what you mean by eating light - if it's light, non spicy food you mean that's great, that will spare you heartburn. But if by light you mean a lighter amount of food, you may wish to check with your midwife.

you can't undo it. and your body obviously wanted it. you are going through a LOT, so it's hardly surprising!

just chalk it up to hormones, and really don't worry. so long as you are not doing it every day, it is going to make zero difference either to your weight or your baby!

When I saw your title i thought you were going to say you got really pissed! A MacDonalds and 3 chocolate bars is going to make any difference to your pregnancy. You need to give yourself a break.
I had 3 Mac Donalds in the space of 4 days at the start of this pregnancy, I've not had one for perhaps 20 years but it was all I wanted to eat. Pregnancy is weird.

I thought you got badly drunk too! Shock McDonald's and a few chocolates is nothing. You need to let yourself relax and just eat whatever you please (not rare steak or runny eggs though) once in a while. If you keep a strict diet your metabolism slows down, pregnant or not, but if you give it a boost sometimes (not too often) it is only good for you. For baby too.
