I used to have combination skin, but my skin has gotten exceedingly dry. I have dry rough patches on my face.

I moisturise moisturise and moisturise but was wondering whether anyone has found anything that helps?

I also take omega 3, drink lots of water and eat my avocados and salmon, but nothing seems to help.

Have you had your iron levels checked recently? That can have an effect, but when I had this, I just had to cover myself in as much oil as possible and wait until the birth I'm afraid!

I have exceptionally dry skin too. I also have soreness around my nose, mouth and forehead. Before I was pregnant it was really greasy. The best thing I've found so far is E45 cream.

I have this too, and I've got eczema on my neck. I used to have one time patch but now it's most of my neck :( Hoping it goes away once I've given birth!

Nice to hear it's not just me!

For a couple of weeks it spread to my belly, upper arms and top of my back. The itching was horrendous! I ended up using bepanthen nappy cream :-). Luckily that disappeared by itself and it's now limited to my face.

I do use E45 but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I had my iron levels checked at 12 weeks. They'll do 'm again next week, so we'll see then!

On the upside, I don't have to wash my hair as often as I used to!

Another one who has always been dry but is now drier than dry despite regular moisturising. When I mentioned it to my gp she said it us because the baby absorbs all the moisture/natural oils for themselves. I've had to change my shampoo to a dry itchy scalp one because I was getting so itchy and irritated by my usual one and have a very rich bump cream that stopped the itching on my bump and boobs. Everywhere else is a combo of cocoa butter and dermovate emollient cream with occasional use of my prescription excema cream when that flares up.
I really hope it settles after birth.

Same here, was dry and itchy all over. Scratching brought me out in spots all over my belly and back. A couple of things helped: avoiding water as much as possible - less swimming and shorter showers no more than once a day; lukewarm rather than hot showers; aveeno shower gel (soap free and oats are good); cetaphil face wash for sensitive skin (doesn't remove natural oils so feels a bit weird to start with); and lots of moisturising - including getting DH to do my back. Bio oil didn't help at all - just made me feel greasy and itchy - gross.

Joining in to empathise with you all. My face is very dry and I have lovely, visibly scaly patches under my eyes on top of my eye bags. Which is a good look. And flaky legs. Nothing much seems to be helping but I'll try the E54 on my face...

Try Diprobase lotion (not cream) from a pharmacy. I also found using eye serum (eg Clinique) as a moisturiser helped, but that ended up v v expensive!!

Diprobase lotion isn't cheap either (around 8 pounds for a big pump bottle), but it's what's medically recommended for dry skin in hospital, and v useful to have in after the birth for dry baby skin and rashes (both GP and HV recommended it for my baby's skin when it got cracked or sore - she was late and so had peely dry skin for a while). You can use it instead of soap as an emollient wash too.

I'm glad it's not just me! I usually struggle with combination skin but now my T-zone has become extremely oily and yet the skin is peeling off and flaking?! Hmm I mentioned this to my GP and she said that like all of the skin changes during pregnancy, it was normal and there was nothing to do but moisturise... I've also suddenly got dandruff that no shampoo or hair product will shift Confused

I don't usually have sensitive skin either, but have noticed that my skin is much more sensitive now than before, so I'm having to be very careful with what I use. I have found that Organic Surge's Overnight Sensation cream is pretty good and not that expensive - and best of all doesn't contain any nasty preservatives.

Mrsanxiety-try Boots own brand specialist shampoo for dry itchy scalps. I have found getting rid of the itch stops the dry skin from flaking and that it wasn't really dandruff.

And YY to the diprobase. That's what I have on standby all the time for my excema

Dildals · 17/04/2015 09:28

Might pop in to the pharmacy later to see if they stock Diprobase!

As a long-term psoriasis sufferer (dry, flaky, itchy skin), I've tried all the creams, lotions and potions, prescription, medical and over the counter. By far the best I've found is Udderly Smooth - not cheap but 1 pot lasts me about 2 months with multiple applications per day. It contains urea and lanolin, absorbs quickly, is non-greasy and gives instant relief. Well worth a try, I think :)

Number3cometome · 17/04/2015 09:51

Mine seems to have gone dry all over my face, arms and legs and I never had dry skin before!

Funny actually, blood results came back today saying low iron!

MadC0w · 17/04/2015 12:02

I have exactly the same problem! Best thing i've found is Rosehip oil (I use the Trilogy stuff - not cheap but you only need 4 drops for your face), no normal moisturiser worked! And a scrub with an exfoliating glove every 2-4 days!

LadesC · 17/04/2015 20:38

My skin is vile at the mo. Flaky dry patches all over my face as well as some dermatitis around my mouth (what an appealing image!!). Only bonus is that i usually have to wash my hair every day but now i can make it last 2 to 3. That said, reckon id rather have daily washing and a face that doesnt look so gross. Am currently sat looking like an oil slick with rosehip oil rubbed on. Fingers crossedSad
