I have the tingle and can feel it coming!went to Boots and asked the pharmacist to check I can use Zovirax or even Boots own brand and they looked and said to go see GP to check! It will be a full blown cold sore by then :( :(
Anyone able to offer advice?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure about Zovirax, could you try Blistex Relief Cream in the meantime, that is apparently ok?

Or maybe ring your GP and ask if they can tell you over the phone rather than making an appointment?

Can't use zovirax; best thing i ever did was buy a boots cold sore machine. can use it all through pregnancy, and works faster than any of the other treatments i tried, even when i'm not pregnant .... other brands make them too too, tho when i bought mine boots was the cheapest at the time

Boots own brand and cymex are perfectly ok to use whilst pregnant, pharmacist in boots sold both to me and labelling doesn't state otherwise and I'm quite clearly pregnant.

Thanks all. I have dabbed a little Zovirax but won't use any more. Eugh it's so horrible when you feel it tingle. Will call midwife tomorrow to check. Thanks again!

Hi everyone I had the same problem a few weeks ago. The midwife asked the hospital pharmacist about using zorvirax, the advice was that it's not known to be harmful as there is very little absorption from the topical route of administration.

Hope that helps.

Hi Red, I hadn't even thought about cold sore creams until read your post...I suffered with one back in January and put Zovirax on it without even thinking was 24w pregnant then...oops! But me and bump are still here to tell the tale!

Ah thanks SmileyScooby! I'm hoping I've kept it at bay with a little Zovirax but still have the tingle today Sad

An update in case others are in the same position. I called my Dr surgery asking to speak to the Modwife and she politely told me no problem at all she's in on April 21st! I explained my situation so she put me on the Duty Dr list to call and within a minute the Dr called me back. He advised its not a problem at all to use the cream. Not allowed to ingest or take a tablet but the cream is fine. Phew! Oh and very impressed with the NHS service of such a prompt reply! Smile
