Feet swelling- what's normal?

Hi - I'm 32 weeks pregnant with twins and I noticed a few days ago that me feet and ankles are really swollen. I can hardly get my trainers on now. My blood pressure is either normal or low and was fine yesterday. Is there a time you need to worry about swollen feet or is absolutely normal? Thanks!

Hi Janie76. I think as long as the midwife sees you as ok, and your blood pressure (checked by them) is ok, there shouldn't be a reason to worry. But remember if you have any worries you can always call them to be sure. I'm sure they could offer you a blood test or something else, if you felt you needed it

I left work partly due to mine, it was so uncomfortable and I couldn't get anything done at work because it felt like my skin was going to burst open. Found it very hard to take breaks.

I have slightly high BP but midwife wasn't concerned about swelling as no protein in my wee. I panicked because the internet told me if it pitted (ie, you press on it and the imprint stays) then it's the wrong type of swelling and you must be seen. Again, midwife seemed non-plussed.

So in conclusion, as long as you are under regular midwife care and you let them know if it comes on very suddenly or severely, and get them to have a look at each appointment, I think it's fairly normal, even with a good BP!

I won't lie, mine still freaks me out when it gets really uncomfortable though.

Get those feet up throughout the day, it makes a world of difference.

If you can get someone to rub the fluid away, even better!

Hello fellow twin mum
The heat has also given me a beautiful set of cankles. Like you BP and urine all ok. I've found sitting with my feet up whenever I sit down, not being on my feet very much, drinking oodles of water and wiggling/flexing my feet when sitting down has helped keep them at bay or at least not at the itchy uncomfortable stage. I've also removed my rings as they were getting a bit tight and I didn't want to run the risk of them having to be cut off.
Bring on the cooler weather!
