Im 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and ive been spotting for about 3 days now. its not a lot, only really when i wipe, apart from this morning when there was a bit in my underwear. Is this normal and has it happened to any of you out there? as im starting to get a lil worried x

I have no experience of this personally as have only just had a (very faint) positive result today (likely 4 weeks if I dare believe it!) but I work in A&E (no midwifery training so this is anecdotal rather than professional advice) and we get a lot of ladies with these symptoms at this stage of pregnancy.

Have you tried calling your local Early Pregnancy Unit? Most hospitals with maternity services will have one, you could have a chat with a midwife which might reassure you or they may arrange for you to have an appointment.

Good luck and hopefully all will be well :)

I had spotting every day between 6-9weeks - currently 18 weeks pregnant and everything seems to be ok. At the time I called epu and they took me in for an early scan at 6+2 and 8+2 - both showed heartbeat and no cause for the bleeding. Apparently spotting in early pregnancy is very common.

Of course everyone worries that it signals miscarriage, which is why it's best to call epu for your own peace of mind. I had a miscarriage in the pregnancy prior to this and the spotting turned to heavy, painful bleeding within 48 hours. Whereas this time it was just when I wiped for a very worrying three full weeks!

Hope everything turns out to be ok for you and try to take it easy in the meantime :)

Hiya, similar to the above, I had spotting from 4wks to 7 wks on and off. I phoned the midwives who said some people do just spot for no reason, but to come to the EPU for a scan (I had to be referred by my doctor after a telephone appointment).

The scan was fine (6+4) and showed a baby of the right size with a heartbeat. I'm now 10+3 and waiting for my 12wk scan - hopefully all will be well! Don't feel hesitant about phoning them, that's what the EPU is there for!

Panda- this can be very normal albeit disconcerting. I even had very heavy bleeding and it was fine. Spotting can be just implantation. Why don't you book in to your epu next week as they can scan you and you should be able to see a HB by then. Very best of luck.

its just that brown mush really that u get at the beginning or end of your period.

I've bled in all of my pregnancies, but the only one which went full term and gave us ds, I bled very heavily all the way through. In fact I didn't realize I was pregnant with ds as I had what I though were two periods but which actually turned out to be bleeing in pregnancy. In my experience I always knew if something was wrong, it was just a feeling I couldn't shake, right from when I had the bfps. With ds I had this deep down core of confidence and just felt that everything was going to be OK, despite my history.
Bleeding is always horrible but is very common, and our consultant once told me that the chances of everything being fine are far higher than the chances of there being a problem.

This happened to me and GP arranged for a scan which showed everything was fine. The spotting continued for several weeks, enough to wear liners. I went on to have a healthy DS (now aged 16!).
