Anyone with SPD around?

I'm 32 weeks and have suddenly started getting groin and inner thigh pain. It's not too bad yet, but just wondering if it will stay like this or is it likely to get worse and how quickly?

You can manage it from now to try and stop it getting worse. So basics:

Keep your knees together at all times but particularly when turning over in bed and when getting out of a car. This includes avoiding breast stroke when swimming or any yoga poses that open the pelvis by opening your legs.

Take shorter steps

Take stairs one at a time holding onto the rail

Sit down when putting on knickers, tights, socks, trousers, skirts to avoid standing on one keg

Avoid anything that involves putting all your weight through one leg for example leaning against a door frame putting your weight through the leg near to the frame.

Sleep with a pillow between your knees. Doesn't need to be a fancy one, I just use a normal one, and you could just use a rolled up towel or blanket if it stays in one shape.

Think that's it. I've had SPD since 13 weeks so all of the above have become my norm. If it is sore, a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel shoved between your legs really does help. If your lower back starts to ache too, a hot water bottle helps ease that. The exercise my physio told me to do was to always focus on pulling my tummy and bottom in rather than walking with them both sticking out (the pregnant duck walk) and to really work on my pelvic floor exercises.

Hope all that makes sense and helps
X

I'm only almost 29 weeks and suffering really badly with SPD waiting for a physio referral and have had to finish work early because of it (8 hours of constant standing). My consultant said it was quite common in multiple pregnancies but I'm in constant agony. Turning over in bed, getting dressed, getting up off the sofa, walking a distance, getting out of a car are all painful. Also quite swollen underneath. Sorry tmi but very uncomfortable. I really hope it doesn't get too bad for you.
I take a couple of cocodamol from time to time (some days worse than others depending how active I've been) sleep with a pillow between my legs & put my electric blanket on for a bit. It helps.

Thanks for the advice. The pain doesn't seem bad today so i am hoping it will be ok. I am in the middle of digging my allotment so wanted to keep active but will try and slow down!

Don't be fooled by feeling better and then doing too much. It's a common problem everyone seems to make with SPD (I did it and stilldo!) and you just end up in more pain.

to add to the above I find a support belt really usefull as it just holds everything together and actual helps restrict movement a little so you don't overstretch.
I have 2 types, a tubi-grip one and an under the bump velcro support, both suggested by the physio.
The tubi-grip I had from my first DC i had to replace for this time and found on Amazon under Easi-grip sizes J/K/L are the larger ones for the trunk and the velcro one I got off Promedics website, think it's maternity belt type C in the product list.
