MMR Vaccine Postnatally

Hi Ladies

Following on from my booking in blood test I have received a letter saying I have low level immunity to Rubella and need the mmr vaccine postnatally.
The letter says that I will probably get the first of two doses whilst I am still in the hospital.
Has anyone else been recommended this and got it in the hospital/waited until a later date/ rejected it.
I understand it's important but not sure I want it in the hospital.
It actually made me feel a little stressed (hormones! ) Smile

Why not? Gets one out of the way

If you going to take it I mean

I do want it but not sure what the side affects may be and if I want them on top of everything else!
I guess I can decide when I am in the hospital.
And I'm a wimp (though may not be one after the experience of birth!). Smile

I would totally have it at the hospital: It'll be much easier than dragging your postnatal self plus a tiny baby to the surgery believe me! :)

Have you had the MMR before? And if so, did you react then? And bad reactions in your family?

It'll be one fewer thing to remember if you get it done whilst in hospital.

There is risk to a foetus from the rubella component (which is why it's not given during PG, but IIRC there have been no incidences recorded of harm to foetuses when the mother received the jab before she knew) but can be given any time after delivery.

If you decide to wait a bit, I suggest you out a future reminder (or even series of reminders) in your diary now, so it doesn't get overlooked later.

Thanks Nancy I might opt to do that.
I'm massively wimpy when it comes to vaccinations (sounds silly really as I will be going through labour and birth beforehand!).
I'm hoping I magically don't notice it happening Grin.
I think I just need a reassuring hug from dp when he gets in!

Hi Scaevola, I had the vaccine as a baby and a booster at around 5 (given in school) so I'm not sure if my mam will remember how I reacted.
I don't know why my resistance is low but I guess it's just one of those things.
I'm going to try and not be a wimp and get it done after delivery!

I'd definitely do it then! Much less ballache organising to get yourself and baby out of the house for a specific time, and your head will probably be so full of magic you won't think like you normally do.

I had mmr the day after delivery and then the second one at DD's 8 or 12 week immunisations (should be 6 weeks I think, but forgot). Was a bit painful but not more than giving birth Grin I would just get it out of the way. Luckily the rubella immunity has held for pregnancy number two!
