Holiday when pregnant, when is the best time to go?

My OH and I are hoping to go to Tenerife for a week this summer. We've had a relatively stressful year and just can not wait to go on holiday! Im currently 5 weeks pregnant (I know it's early but I'd like to plan ahead) and I'd like to go on holiday in September, mainly because it's slightly cheaper and it will hopefully be a bit quieter than in July or August. In September I'll be 6 months pregnant, and having a bump will not bother me at all (ive seen some lovely maternity swimwear to be honest). However my OH wants to go in July, which is fine as I'll be 4 months, but because I'm slightly worried I'll feel better if it's at a time when I can feel the baby move around as I know how anxious I'll be (im bad enough now).

I was just wondering if there's a best time to go away when pregnant? this is my first child so I don't know whether being in a hot country and 6 months pregnant will be too much and earlier on will be better, or whether it'd be worth it to go later on as its quieter.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
TIA

I went to tenerife in last pregnancy 18 weeks in sept it was brilliant couldn't have been more relaxing, I also went in a previous pregnancy at 27 weeks no problem at all the only thing you can't do is sit in an emergency exit seat on the plane. Go and have a relax in the sun before baby arrives and your holidays change forever

Thanks moomoob part of the reason i want to go in September is so that there'll be less children, not that I have a problem at all I just figured if it's my last childless holiday I should make it as quiet as possible! Wasn't sure whether I'd come across like I disliked children on holidays for saying that though!

Ha ha I know exactly what you mean children on holidays are extremely hard work enjoy your last childless holiday. As long as you've no medical problems there's no reason why you shouldn't travel and at 6 months your at a nice time of your pregnancy (well as nice as it can be) you'll be over the sickness and exhaustion the first trimester brings and before the heartburn backache and even more exhaustion the 3rd trimester brings

I went with at 20 weeks with both pregnancies (recently to Australia ) and tbh felt this was the perfect time. Not too early so the risk of mis carrying is reduced but not ' too' pregnant and uncomfortable. At 20 weeks likely hood you will have a nice sized bump , not to big and will be during the 'best' stage. ( sickness gone, less tired etc)
That's my advice.

I went to Malta three weeks ago - I was 24 weeks then. It was a nice time.

To be honest, I'd be less sure now. Of course, we are all individual but I found at 26 weeks - i.e. last week, I suddenly felt a bit different - there's a growth spurt between 24-28 weeks and I'm suddenly a bit more achey and feel bigger.

I'm glad I went when I did... so would recommend as early in Sept as possible, given your other desires (which I totally understand!!).

I'm going to Singapore next month when I'll be 21 weeks pregnant, 23 weeks by the time we fly back. I wouldn't want to go much later than that, mainly because of the length of flight and the climate over there. I'd be worried that I would be too uncomfortable and not enjoy myself. Tenerife is closer and less humid though so I would go for it and early September sounds ideal for less children about.

Ive been on holiday around 20 weeks with both of mine and have found it a great time to go. Bump there but not too big or uncomfortable. Later in the pregnancy I found I didn't like to be too hot and I felt very uncomfortable with big bump, swollen legs and probably wouldn't enjoy a holiday so much. I think the earlier the better but there's nothing to stop you doing in in September if thats convenient for you.

I guess it all depends on you and how your feeling through your pregnancy. I am off on holiday this weds am at 27 weeks. Grin Grin Grin Grin

I have been v well throughout the entire time. I'm not tired in the slightest and not finding anything too hard at mo (v lucky I know and hope it lasts for as long as possible!). I only recently have noticed growth spurt mentioned between 24-28wks is that I'm super hungry. But I'm packing extra nutritious snack bars and dried fruit (don't wanna eat crap off the snack bars - all Inc Wink ).

I'm v glad one of these growth spurt weeks is a sunshine holiday of relaxing, chilling, not working and just growing a baby!!! Grin Grin

Really make sure to get travel insurance, know where the nearest hospital is, inform your midwives you're going away and if you have any doubts at all about anything, call them, don't wait to come home. Also take your notes with you. I don't want to be the voice of doom, but my late miscarriage (DS, 19 weeks) happened in Italy. I had insurance, etc., but it was still just awful and made worse by not being in the UK. I'm not saying don't go - I was working and it was the second time I'd gone out there while pg - just have a plan, be vigilant.
