Bloody Vomit! Literally!

Im 9+3 and have had really awful sickness for about 3 weeks now. I saw the GP last week after i had streaks of blood in my vomit and he said it sounded like it was due to lots of vomiting/retching..sigbed me off work for a week and prescribed anti-emetics.

Due to mmc last year i am too scared to take the tablets. This morning i was vomiting as soon as i woke up and and it was all red bile/watery plegm (sorry!) Im worried about how much blood there was. I called the GP and receptionist had no appointments at all and told me to try again tomorrow.

Has anyone had a lot of blood in their vomit? Should i just wait to see GP tomorrow or do i need to be seen somewhere today??

Ring 111 and ask for advice.

Blood in vomit needs to be assessed, today. Ring 111.

ShadowStone · 13/04/2015 09:06

Sorry, posted too soon.

I have no idea how serious this is, but 111 should be able to get you a doctor appointment or advise walk in centre or suchlike if they think it's too serious to wait until tomorrow.

I had this, Mallory Weiss syndrome, tears in the oesophagus. Very painful. I didn't go to hospital but they did give me strong anti sickness drugs.

Ultimately I was fine, the baby was fine and I didn't have it in subsequent pregnancies.

So do as they say, get the help you need, and try not to worrySmile

Hi, thanks Kelda just back from hospital and thats exactly what they said it is. Have to start my sickness tablets and have more tablets to heal the tears!

Oh no! :( I had this too at 10 weeks and 16 weeks so I know how horrible it is. Best advice I can give is eat really soothing plain food until it heals. Chicken noodle soup etc. If you get it again they might want to do an endoscopy to rule out a stomach ulcer. Get well soon!

If it's fresh, it's likely from oesophageal / throat tears. This is painful and you should check with your doc.

If you ever vomit a substance that looks a bit like used coffee grounds, you go to A&Eimmediately - that's a bleed deeper down and can be very serious.

It is miserable, I do sympathise. Liquids if possible, hurts less coming back up. Poor you :(

Hi Amy, I had this when I was little, but had it for days in hospital before they treated it. Anyway whilst it heals, make sure you don't do anything to make heartburn worse, I found I couldn't drink fresh orange juice and I got reflux. Anyway, it might be worth having some tums or gaviscon on hand just in case

Amyyy27 · 13/04/2015 15:43

Hi happy thank you thats good to know. Are they both ok to take during pregnancy?

Yup, tums say on the packet and I was given gaviscon by my doctor. Anything chalky like tums, gaviscon, Rennes etc are fine. just see how you go xxx

Amyyy27 · 13/04/2015 16:24

Aww thank you :) xx
