Hi ladies,

Jumping across from the Ttc threads, I've had my first ever BFP (taken 4 tests actually) and my doctors surgery advise that I don't need to sees anyone to confirm pregnancy just to book a midwife appt at 8 weeks? Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Congratulations!! Flowers

Yes that's normal. No one actually checked I was pregnant until I went for my ultrasound which I thought was odd, but apparently not! Pregnancy tests are so good these days they don't need to. Just book with the midwife for around 8 weeks. :)

pinkie thanks for the quick reply, I just assumed there would be some kind of confirmation Confused

Guess it's a waiting game again then

Congrats! I got my BFP a couple of weeks ago, phoned midwife a couple of days later who put me on system but haven't heard anything re an appointment yet. Coming up for 7 weeks now and don't want to be annoying worrier phoning them multiple times, but have absolutely no symptoms so would quite like to see someone for reassurance!

Haggis that's exactly how I feel I tested yesterday and today as I felt so tired and sore last week that I was hopeful but my period is only due today so I kinda wanted to get in early and have some one tell me I'm not making it up lol.

Congratulations anyway haggis, have you told many people?

yep, totally and utterly normal. my GP just said, congratulations and took my blood pressure, then referred me to the hospital. i had a private scan and a tiny bleed at around 6-7 weeks, so had to go in for those, but if it hadn't been for that, i would have done nothing until the MW appointment and then 12 week scan!

massive congratulations - and haggis, i had no symptoms, and still don't at 14 + 6! it is worrying when you hear so much about morning sickness meaning strong pregnancy hormones and all your pregnant friends seem to be swapping chucking up stories all the time... but i think it's actually pretty common to have zero symptoms. just be glad and enjoy it!

I had a doctor's appointment the day after I got my BFP for an unrelated reason. I asked him to do a urine test in the office to check again, which he indulged but said the HPTs are pretty accurate when it comes to positives, so if you have a BFP you are almost certainly pregnant (unless you've had a recent miscarriage for example).

When I had my first ultrasound they didn't do any urine/blood test at all. But there was a little one in there Smile

Congrats!

Hi nicnak! Saw your BFP on the TTC threads - congrats Smile

I think it's quite normal to go straight to a midwife. I've got a GP's appt tomorrow which I booked just after getting my BFP, but I got impatient and self-referred myself to the midwifery team at the local hospital, so I'm now simultaneously waiting for notice of my "booking-in" appointment with the midwife. I still want to see my GP, though, partly to check with him what I should be doing next (I know him, and I don't know the midwife), and also because I have some medical history that he's familiar with and want to check how that impacts the pregnancy.

You should come over and join us on the Dec 2015 antenatal thread!
