38 Weeks Severe SPD

So been suffering with SPD since about 25 weeks off and on. Have mentioned each time ive seen mw and they never seem too bothered. At my 36 week app I mentioned again and they did say they could refer me to a physio but they wouldn't be able to do much and that it was really just part and parcel of pregnancy, which I thought was fair enough at the time as it wasn't as terrible as it is now. Anyway, last couple of days ive been in excruciating pain, got stuck on the sofa yesterday and just couldn't physically get up. Can hardly turn in bed aNd just feeling in so much pain. Feel im not drinking as much as I cannot keep getting up to go to the loo. Waddling like a 90 year old!! Just wondering if I should try see a mw or doctor today and if they would do anything at this late stage in the game? I have a mw app tomorrow but seriously not sure I'm going to manage to get there. Has anyone been induced for severe SPD pain before their due date? Feeling pretty miserable here Sad x

I was induced for severe spd. I had been on crutches for the last ten (at least) weeks of pregnancy, getting into bed was horrific and painful and could only sleep sitting up in one position. It was miserable. As soon as my baby was born, it started to go away. Do you see a consultant or just a midwife. You could try demanding they do something, tell them how desperate you are. I'm surprised you haven't had physio, probably a bit late for that now.
If it's any consolation, when my baby's head engaged, the pain halved and I didn't need the crutches anymore. Maybe the same for you?

I feel your pain, only 25 weeks here and suffering. I bought a support belt from eBay and the physio gave me some tubigrip to wear on my bump. I'm really struggling already, this weekend esp. Maybe you could buy a belt? To try Ease a little discomfort over next few weeks.

I'm 34 weeks and in agony. So much so I am finishing work earlier than planned as sitting down all day is agonising. I have a section booked for 18th May for a different reason. My physio was great, although the pain won't go away until baby is born (hopefully) she gave me exercises to do, told me to sleep with 3 pillows between my knees and ankles and turning over in bed has to be done on all fours. Also putting frozen peas on my pelvis helps relieve the pain temporarily. I try and stay as mobile as possible too as that is better than being sat down. I have just bought a maternity support belt on the advice of a consultant so fingers crossed it works.

I had severe SPD in the last 3 weeks. I got stuck in bed a number of times.

Try putting a support belt on loosely before going to bed. Tighten it to aid getting up.

You could ask to be admitted to the ante natal ward. I found the beds in the hospital made such a difference as they lifted me up to sitting.

Thanks OP. I would consider a third baby if I could rule out the SPD. Just hellish.

Thanks for advice ladies, it really is horrible. I just don't think the mw really took me seriously. I do find the more I walk about the more it eases off. I started mat leave last week and obviously haven't been on my feet as much so I'm guessing that's why its got worse. What belts have you all gone for? I'm willing to try anything but there seems to be a lot to choose from x

Physio told me it had to have "wings" to tighten it. Something like this is fine. Mine is similar but can't find the one I got but was only £14. For a few weeks use, I wouldn't pay a lot

Take paracetamol if not done already. It does help me.

If not doing pelvic floors, start doing them
When turning in bed/sitting down/standing up/sneezing etc engage your lower abdominal muscles. (Hold everything as tight as possible) oh and keep knees together

It's too late for physio (appointment probably take forever to come thru)

I find I stiffen up then start walking, loosen off then get sore again. Never ending cycle sadly.

I would phone your midwife or if she not very helpful, the maternity unit. Do you have another appointment with midwife this week?
