I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I was hoping someone might be able to advise/reassure me. Last night I discovered that one of the pipes connected to the thermostatic valve on my bedroom radiator is severely corroded and covered in a white fluffy substance. Ever since I moved into the property, the radiator has given off a nasty burning smell whenever it is on. I reported this to the property management company several months ago, as the house is rented. They sent a contractor to look at it, a general maintenance/repair guy rather than a qualified plumber and he just denied there was any smell and said if I did smell anything it was probably because I dried clothes on the radiator. He said the radiator was fine and there was no more he could do about it. Now that I've spotted the corroded pipe however (I can't believe I didn't spot it before), I'm convinced that what has been causing the smell was burning rust and possibly mould. I'm almost 29 wks pregnant and worried whether this corrosion/mould could have any health affects on my baby, especially the fumes whenever the radiator was switched on. I would like the whole valve to be replaced, as the corrosion is so bad, but I'm worried the property management will try to get away with doing as little as possible, like the normally do. Basically one of the contractors told me that their main aim is to spend as little as possible on repairs and they will always try to get out of doing them where possible or they will try to cut corners.
Does anyone know if this might be a health hazard?
Many thanks, Sarah
